The first Small Business Saturday took place in 2010. The American Express Company designed the program to encourage people to shop at small businesses in their own community.

When is Small Business Saturday?

Every year, the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

What Do I Do on Small Business Saturday?

Shop at locally owned and operated small businesses around the Phoenix area. Shopping? Yes, I can do that!

Do I Get $10 Back from American Express?

Unfortunately, that promotion ended after the 2014 Shop Small event. For five years, American Express provided that monetary incentive to their customers to shop local. Consumers apparently got the message -- in 2014, 88 million people shopped at small businesses on Small Business Saturday.

American Express assists small businesses across the country with marketing materials, ads and merchandise kits to help them take full advantage of the promotion.

Why Participate in Small Business Saturday If I Don't Get a Rebate?

According to Local First Arizona, "Studies have shown that money stays and re-circulates more often when spent at locally owned businesses. In addition, local businesses help increase home town pride which makes folks more connected to the place they live."

How Do I Find a Business That Participates?

You'll find more than 100 restaurants, shops, attractions and other businesses that have signed up for Small Business Saturday. Log in to the mapping system using your American Express account  login and password, enter your zip code, and see which businesses in your neighborhood are on the list.

What If I Don't Have an American Express Card?

You can still use the map to find locally owned businesses in your area that can always use your support, all year long.
