The Saturday after Thanksgiving is Small Business Saturday, a day dedicated to supporting locally owned businesses. During the holiday weekend, one of the busiest shopping times of the year, millions of Americans will shop at their favorite local stores and help fuel the economy. While, the Washington, DC area has a number of great small businesses, here are some suggested destinations to explore.

Prime Locations to Shop at Locally Owned Businesses
Georgetown (DC) – The popular shopping corridor along M Street and Wisconsin Avenue is home to a mix of small businesses and national chains. The stores are dressed up for the holiday season and many of them offer special discounts.
Adams Morgan (DC) – The neighborhood has an eclectic selection of stores and is a fun place to shop for a variety of gift items.
Dupont Circle (DC) – You will find a wide range of locally owned businesses in the Dupont Circle area as well as a variety of ethnic restaurants, bookstores, and private art galleries.
Union Market (DC) - The artisanal food market in NE Washington DC features more than 40 local vendors ranging from up-and-coming entrepreneurs to well known restaurateurs.
Historic Ellicott City (Maryland) – The historic mill town is home to a variety of antique shops and unique stores.
Savage Mill (Maryland) – The historic textile mill, located between Baltimore and Washington is home to antique stores, home furnishing stores, craft galleries, artist studios, specialty shops, restaurants, banquet facilities and an authentic French bakery.
Frederick (Maryland) – The downtown ares is home to more than 200 antique shops in an eight block area.

Old Town Alexandria (Virginia) – More than 30 independent Alexandria boutiques offer special promotions during the holiday season, such as merchandise discounts, gifts with purchase, complimentary services, treats, and/or festive activities. Be sure to check out the Torpedo Factory Art Center as all of the artists are also small independent business owners.
Old Town Manassas (Virginia) – The historic town is home to quaint shops, museums, and galleries.
