The mild Phoenix climate makes this a perfect area, all year long, for outdoor skating. Whether you have inline skates or a skateboard, it is likely that there will be a skate park near you where you can skate on a great surface and get the most of your skating experience. Some of these parks -- but not all -- also allow scooters.

Here is a listing of skatepark locations in the Greater Phoenix area that are popular with skaters and skateboarders:

Apache Junction

Superstition Shadows Skate Park
The Superstition Shadows Skate Park is located at 1091 W. Southern Ave. (near Ironwood) in Apache Junction, Arizona. It is a concrete, lighted skate park. It is free. For more information, contact the City of Apache Junction at 480-983-2181.

Casa Grande

Velocity Skate Park
The Velocity Skate Park at 1115 N. Brown Ave in Casa Grande is located adjacent to the Palm Island Family Aquatics Park. The contact phone number for the Casa Grande Parks Department is 520-421-8677.

Chandler

Chandler Skatepark
The Chandler Skatepark is at 4800 S. Basha Rd. in south Chandler. It is a free public skate park. For more information contact the City of Chandler at 480-782-2640.

El Mirage

Gateway Park Skate Plaza
Located in El Mirage, Arizona in the Northwest Valley. It is at Gateway Park located at 10100 N. El Mirage Rd. and is a free public skate park. It features 15,000 square feet of concrete with curbs, steps with steel ledges, hips, and a half pipe. This plaza was designed for the true street skaters and for all levels to beginners to the advanced. The park also has a misting system to cool skateboarders as well as shade. Fountain Hills

Desert Vista Skate Park
Located at 11800 N Desert Vista in Fountain Hills. Open from 7 a.m. to sunset. Call for information 480-816-5100. 

Gilbert

Freestone Skate Park
Located in Gilbert, Arizona in the East Valley. It is at Freestone Park, at the intersection of Juniper and Lindsay Roads. It is a free public skate park. Call for information 480-503-6201.

Glendale

Foothills Sk8 Court Plaza
Located in the Foothills Park at 57th Avenue and Union Hills Road. It is a free public skate park. Call for information 623-930-2820.

X-Court
Located at 83rd Avenue just north of Bethany Home Road at the Western Area Regional Park. This is a 26,000 square-foot, concrete bikes, boards and blades court with three major components: bowls, transitions and street elements. Call for information 623-930-2820.

Goodyear

Goodyear Skatepark
Located at 3151 N. Litchfield Road in Goodyear. That's in the West Valley. Helmets are required here. No scooters. Children under the age of nine must have an adult with them. Closed on major holidays. Call for more information 623-882-7525.

Mesa 

Reed Park Skate Court
Located at 1631 E. Broadway in Mesa. It is a free public skate park. Call for information 480-644-5300.

Kids That Rip!
An air-conditioned indoor skate park with 10,000 sq. feet of skating ramps, bowls, etc. For the most part, this is a membership based facility where kids ages three and up can sign up for weekly classes and open skate.

Paradise Valley Skate Park
The Paradise Valley Skate Park is located at 17402 N. 40th St. in Phoenix. It is a free public skate park. For more information call 602-495-3777.

Pecos Park Skate Park
The Pecos Park Skate Park is located at 17010 S. 48th Street (48th Street and Pecos Parkway; enter from 48th St. via Chandler Boulevard). It is a free public skate park. For more information call 602-262-6111.

Hermoso Skate Plaza
The Hermoso Skate Plaza is located at 17402 N. 40th St. in Phoenix. It is a free public skatepark. For more information call 602-262-6836.

Skate Plaza at Cesar Chavez Park
The Cesar Chavez Park skate park is located at 7858 S. 35th Avenue in Laveen. That's in southwest Phoenix. The skate plaza is directly south of the Cesar Chavez Library. It is a free public skatepark. For more information call 602-495-5844.

Dust Devil Skate Plaza
Located at 10645 W. Camelback Rd. in Phoenix (107 Ave. & Campbell). It contains grinding rails, skateable benches, 4 individual ramp features, lighting, drinking fountain and shade trees. For more information call 602-262-6575.

Scottsdale

The Wedge at Eldorado Park
Located in Scottsdale at 2311 N. Miller Road.  It is a 20,000 square feet facility that has a Fun Box, Amoeba Bowl, Launch Box, Quarter-Pipe, Pyramid, curbs, and rails. Free. Call for information 480-312-2483.

Skate Park at McDowell Mountain Ranch Park
Located in Scottsdale at 15525 N. Thompson Peak Parkway (Thompson Peak Parkway & McDowell Mountain Ranch Road). The 16,000 square foot skate park features the city’s only “street course” and will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The facility is fenced, lighted and free. BMX bikes are not permitted in the skate park. Call for information 480-312-6677.

Surprise

Surprise Community Farms
Located at 17894 Westpark Blvd. in Surprise. The skate park is in the southwest part of the park. Call  623-222-2000 for information.

Tempe

Tempe Sports Complex Skatepark
The Tempe Sports Complex Skatepark is at 8403 S. Hardy Drive near Warner Road in Tempe. It is a free public skate park. Call for information 480-350-5200.

Esquer Park
Located at 2407 E. McArthur in Tempe. In-ground concrete bowls with metal coping. Skateboards and BMX bikes allowed. It is a free public skate park. Call for information 480-350-5200.

Hudson Park
