SJ Armstrong is a freelance travel writer from London. She is currently roaming around central Mexico. She has travelled to more than 80 countries and has lived in 5 countries on 4 continents. Her work has appeared in Fodor's, Bradt Guides, Culture Trip, and more.

Having recently completed a master's degree in postcolonialism at the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London), SJ's academic research is principally focused on the relationship between travel writing and travel journalism, and neoimperialism. Her bachelor's degree in history and English literature from the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, was centred on Islamic history and Irish anticolonial literature. She has also studied Arabic (MSA) at her graduate university and learnt to speak Spanish while working in Colombia.
