Silver Spring Jazz Festival 2015

The Silver Spring Jazz Festival is a free annual event in Downtown Silver Spring featuring a variety of jazz performances. The performances are held outdoors so bring a blanket and/or beach chair. A wide variety of food will be available to purchase from local restaurants. Headlining this year is the Al Chez and The Brothers of Funk Big Band. Performances will also include Marcus Johnson & the Urban Jam Band, Halley Shoenberg, Dani Cortaza and the Jazz Academy of Music.

Festival Location

Veterans Plaza at the Silver Spring Civic Building, One Veterans Place, at the intersection of Fenton Street and Ellsworth Drive in Downtown Silver Spring, Maryland

Transportation and Parking

Attendees are encouraged to use public transportation. The concert is located a few blocks from the Silver Spring Metro station. Public parking facilities are located at the corner of Cameron Street and Second, and at the corner of Colesville Road and Spring Street.

About the 2015 Performers

Al Chez and The Brothers of Funk Big Band - Headliner - Alan Chez began his music career at the age of 9 and is best known for his performances with Jon Bon Jovi.

He plays trumpet, flugelhorn, valve trombone and percussion. He has also played with Tower of Power, RObert Cray Band, Spyro Gyro, Sting, Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Cee lo Green, Snoop dog, James Brown and many others. Chez is currently playing with The Brothers of Funk Big Band, integrating the sounds of classic rock, soul, and jazz.

Marcus Johnson & the Urban Jam Band - Marcus Johnson is a local award-winning jazz keyboardist and pianist who combines smooth jazz with the rhythms of rap and the soul of R&B.

Halley Shoenberg - Halley Schoenberg is an award-winning musician who plays jazz clarinet, saxophone and flute.

Dani Cortaza -  The award-winning guitarist specializes in Brazilian, Latin jazz and South America  folk music.

Jazz Academy of Music - The Silver Spring-based non-profit organization provides educational and performance opportunities for local talent. Students will perform in this year's Silver Spring Jazz Festival.
