The annual Shamrock St. Patrick's Day Festival has grown into a two-day event featuring parades, music, motorcycle rally, beauty pageant, craft show, carnival and more.

About the Festival

The town of Shamrock gleaned its name thanks to the suggestion of an Irish immigrant back in the 1800s. Over the years, the name has certainly lent an air of Irish to the town. In 1938, the Shamrock St. Patrick's Day Festival was first staged at the suggestion of the town's bandmaster. Originally a two-day festival, the event has now grown to three days, but is still held on the weekend nearest St. Patrick's Day. The weekend begins on Friday, with the Kickoff Banquet, Carnival and Miss Irish Rose Debut.

Saturday features a 5k Run, Donegal Beard Contest, carnival, chili cook-off and more. In fact, some of the festival's biggest events take place on Saturday - the St Patrick's Parade, the crowning of Miss Irish Rose, and the "Big Dance" Saturday night. Sunday features a Lad n' Lassie Pageant, art show and carnival.

Where is the Festival Held

Events associated with the Shamrock St. Patrick's Day Festival are held throughout the town of Shamrock in venues such as the Community Center, Fire Hall, High School Auditorium and others. Shamrock is located on Route 66 at the crossroads of I40 and Highway 83 east of Amarillo.
