Park Overview

Schlitterbahn, pioneers in the water park industry, operates one of the oldest, largest, and most popular parks at its original location in New Braunfels, Texas. It also runs a chain of Schlitterbahn water parks. In 2014, its fifth outpost comes to Corpus Christi.

Located on the site of a former country club, the 65-acre property is packed with all kinds of slides and rides, including multiple MasterBlaster uphill water coasters and a Boogie Bahn FlowRider surfing attraction, innovations that Jeff Henry, one of the family members behind the Schlitterbahn chain, developed. It also includes a Tidal Wave River, which marries a lazy river with a wave pool. Passengers float in inner tubes around the river, but instead of a calm ride, they must contend with a torrent of waves.

In the center of the park is one of the signature attractions, Shoot the Chutes. Often found at amusement parks, the thrill ride sends boatloads of passengers up a lift hill only to send them careening down a chute into a pool that creates an enormous cascade of water. It is as much fun for the riders as it is for onlookers who get caught in the plume.

Other features include body and tube slides, heated pools with swim-up bars, and areas for young children to frolic in the water. Inner tubes are included in ticket prices, and parking is complimentary (many water parks charge for both). Also, Schlitterbahn allows visitors to bring their own food into the park, which helps them keep the costs down for a day at the park.

As with its other parks, Schlitterbahn Corpus Christi is a destination resort and offers onsite accommodations. Among the options are "treehouse villas," spacious units that appear to be built into trees.
