San Pedro Square Market

Visiting San Pedro Square Market, San Jose
Cassie Kifer

If you are planning a trip to Downtown San Jose, don't miss the San Pedro Square Market, a specialty food market with more than 20 food stalls, bars, shops, and a bit of San Jose history.

The market opened in 2012 and quickly became one of the most popular restaurant venues and gathering spots in Downtown San Jose. It's a popular spot for meeting up on a sunny day and having dinner and drinks late into the night. The market has a variety of food vendors so it's a great place to dine as a group. The market offers live music, trivia, and events most nights. Check the website for the current music schedule and upcoming events.

The market surrounds the Peralta Adobe. Built in 1787, the home is the oldest building in San Jose. You can see the adobe and their outdoor stove, adjacent the central market plaza, but the interior is only open to tour groups arranged by History San Jose.

Inside the Market

The market has two buildings. Market Hall, on the corner of North Almaden and W. St. John Street, and the El Dorado Building & Garage, on the corner of San Pedro Street and W. St. John Street. Market hall has one central room with vendors along the walls, and El Dorado Building has a series of small halls plus the open Garage area with tables, a performance area, bar, and coffee shop.

The Peralta Adobe Plaza, the open-air patio between the two buildings has several seating areas and an outdoor event stage. When the weather is nice, patio tables fill up fast.
