One of the Bay Area's most-loved pro sports team is the San Jose Sharks and catching a game alongside passionate fans at Downtown San Jose's "Shark Tank" is a unique Silicon Valley experience.
This year marks the 25th anniversary season for the San Jose Sharks. The team joined the National Hockey League (NHL) in the 1991-1992 season and they are Northern California's only professional NHL hockey team. The Sharks have won six division titles, the Presidents' Trophy (2008-09), and the Western Conference Championship (2015-16). As of publication, they are currently playing in the 2016 Stanley Cup finals.
The San Jose Sharks play all their home games at the SAP Center San Jose (525 W Santa Clara Street), known locally as the "Shark Tank." The Sharks share the arena with their minor league American Hockey League affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda.
The Sharks name was selected, in part, because of the large shark population off the coast of Northern California -- and, as you probably already know, ice is not all that common in the sunny South Bay. The Sharks team colors are black and teal.
San Jose Sharks Schedule
The NHL hockey season runs from October to May or June each year. Each team in the NHL plays 82 regular season games, 41 each at home and away. The pre-season starts in September and the Stanley Cup playoffs go into June.
NHL Playoffs & Stanley Cup 2016
On May 25, 2016, the San Jose Sharks won the Western Conference NHL Playoffs against the St. Louis Blues, 4-2. As of publication, the Sharks are headed to their first-ever Stanley Cup Final against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The 2016 Stanley Cup Final series starts Monday, May 30.

In 2012, Cartoon network named Sharkie the "Most Awesome Mascot" in all of sports. He has his own website, SJSharkie.com.
