What better way is there to celebrate the start of spring than with a trip to the ballpark? You don't have to trek all the way up to San Francisco or Oakland to catch a game--come to San Jose and watch the San Jose Giants.

The San Jose Giants are the Minor League (Class A Advanced) baseball team for the Major League San Francisco Giants. Going to a San Jose Giants game lets you get close to the players and get an autograph of rising stars before they move up to the San Francisco Giants. Current San Francisco Giants who once played for the San Jose Giants include Buster Posey, Madison Bumgarner, Brandon Belt, and Brandon Crawford.

Going to a is a way to take a step back in time. For more than 70 years, the San Jose Giants have played all their home games at Memorial Stadium, a Works Progress Administration (WPA) era ballpark built from 1941-1942. The historic venue was one of the first stadiums to be built entirely of reinforced concrete. The stadium is small and it's easy to get up close to the players.

Memorial Stadium Address: 588 East Alma Avenue, San Jose, CA.

Quirky Things to Watch for at a San Jose Giants Game:

  • The team mascot, Gigante ("giant" in Spanish), is a loveable gorilla and San Jose fans can't get enough of him. In 2013 Gigante was named the top team mascot in the California League.
  • Every game, the Giant's designate one player on the opposing team to be "The Beer Batter"--if the Giants strike out that player, beer is half-price for the next 15 minutes. For safety sake, after the 7th inning, the "Beer Batter" turns into the "Martinelli's Apple Juice" batter and they start offering half-price apple juice.
