San Francisco's Best November Events: Recommendations
These are a few ideas - things that I have done and have recommended to my friends.
Dickens Fair Begins: Thanksgiving weekend marks the beginning of a Dickens of a celebration at the Cow Palace. You might be excused for thinking you stepped into a time warp when you walk in the door of this fun celebration of Christmas past. All the details are in the Dickens Fair Guide.
Get Crabby: Commercial fishing season for Dungeness crab begins in early November. Forget those pre-cooked frozen crabs at the wharf and go for the fresh ones instead. You'll find them on the menu at many San Francisco restaurants. Climate and ocean conditions may cancel or delay the season, so it's best to check its current status on the Department of Fish and Wildlife website.
Things That Look Like Fun to Do in November
It's a good thing I can make lists because I find so many fun things to do that I'd forget them all. These are a few things on my... "That Looks Interesting" list:
Christmas is Coming: The run-up to the holiday starts at Thanksgiving and a lot of outdoor trees, skating rinks and other festivities start that weekend. Here's a preview of Christmas in San Francisco
Things That Are Especially Fun in November
Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, and the following Friday is often a work holiday. Check the Thanksgiving guide to find out what special events happen then.
November is the end of humpback whale season around San Francisco. Find out how, when and where in the San Francisco Whale Watching Guide.

- All you have to do is sign up for a free account with Goldstar to get access to discounted tickets for performances and save on some San Francisco attractions. Even better, it's just as useful when you're at home as it is when you're visiting San Francisco.
- For a look at local events, check the San Francisco Chronicle's entertainment section.
- The San Francisco 49ers might be playing at home while you're there, but Levi Stadium is miles south in Santa Clara. Check the schedule at their website. The Oakland Raiders are closer, just across the Bay. So is Golden State Warriors basketball.

More About San Francisco in November
What to Expect from San Francisco Weather in November
November is one of San Francisco's wettest months. On the average, that is. In some years, it's clear and nice. If the weather tries to rain on your vacation, try these Things to Do on a Rainy Day in San Francisco
You'll have about 10 hours of sunlight per day to explore San Francisco in November. It won't affect how long the sun will be up, but Daylight Savings time ends in early November, which will push the clocks back and make it seem like the sun is setting earlier. Many local attractions may change their hours when that happens.
- Average High Temperature: 63°F/17°C
- Average Low Temperature: 50°F/10°C
- Rain & Clouds Index: 3.21 inches (8.2 cm) rain, 62% sunshine
If you want to compare November weather to other months, check the Guide to San Francisco Weather and Climate.
Use the weather averages to get an idea of what things may be like, but it might be different when you visit. A winter day could even be so warm... you'll wish you packed your shorts.
Averages are helpful for planning ahead, but don't count on your trip being "average." Check the San Francisco weather forecast before you leave home.Continue to 3 of 3 below.

What to Pack, What to Wear in November
Your best bet is to check the short-range forecast before you go, but we've seen even that change dramatically over a few days. Be prepared for moderate temperatures and bring some rain gear just in case. For that, a hooded jacket is a better idea than an umbrella. Layers are also a strategy, a lot of them, so you can adjust to match the weather.
