The Sagamore Resort at Bolton Landing, New York
My review of The Sagamore Resort at Bolton Landing has been substantially rewritten and update. You can read my new review here, atThe Sagamore. Thank you for your patience.
The Golf Course: Donal Ross, at least as far as I'm concerned, was one of the finest golf course designers of his times. The golf course at The Sagamore is one of his masterpieces. This lovely lakefront golf course has his signature stamped all over it. A hillside layout that takes full advantage of its natural environment, it's a remote and tranquil world of narrow fairways that meander back and forth between ancient stands of old-growth forest, one fairway separated from another so only rarely does one get a glimpse of a fellow golfer. The greens are undulating, quick, often tough to read and inevitably guarded by deep and intimidating bunkers. All this, and the glistening waters of Lake George, make it a must play if you're planning a New York Golf Trail getaway.
The 18-hole Sagamore golf course plays... a little over 6,800 yards from the back tees. The par is 70, course rating is 73.8 and the slope is 137. The course was designed by Donald J. Ross and opened for play in 1928. The Sagamore Resort is also a member of the New York Golf Trail. Golf Digest rated The Sagamore Golf Course as the "5th Best Public Course in New York State." The legendary Lake George golf course has also been honored with the "Greens of Distinction" award from Corporate and Incentive Travel and named a “top U.S. resort course” by Condé Nast.
Green Fees: see my new review of the Sagamore, here, for the latest information, tee times, and rates.
There's also a full-service banquet/convention facility capable of catering to large groups of up to 800 guests for a variety of functions from the corporate meeting to weddings and other social events.Continue to 2 of 2 below.

About The Sagamore
One of New York State's grand old ladies, the Sagamore first opened its doors in 1883. And in keeping with the times, it was the luxurious Lake George accommodations that attracted a select, international clientele. The hotel quickly became the "social epicenter for the wealthy residents of Green Island and Millionaires Row." The hotel has, however, been through some rough times. Twice it was damaged by fire - in 1893 and 1914, The hotel was reconstructed, almost from the ground up. in 1930 the stalwart efforts of Dr. William G. Beckers of New York City, one of the hotel's early stockholders, and William H. Bixby, a St. Louis industrialist. Together the then huge cost was financed the cost in spite of the burgeoning Great Depression and the period’s bleak economic climate, thus The Sagamore continued to thrive, hosting the National Governor's Conference in 1954, which was presided over by Vice President Richard M. Nixon and Governor Thomas E. Dewey. Today, the grand... hotel continues to cater not only to the rich and famous, but also to the likes of you and me.
