Need an idea for Valentine’s Day, an upcoming anniversary or simply a special night out with your sweetie? Make a reservation at one of my top five picks for the most romantic restaurant in San Diego.
George’s at the Cove
Panoramic ocean views, sumptuous and cozy seating, low lighting, and attention to detail by the wait staff all make George’s at the Cove an ideal restaurant for a romantic night out. George's at the Cove has definitely seen its fair share of engagements but provides a setting for romance no matter the occasion. Add on top of the ambiance some excellent gourmet cuisine, plus a great cocktail and wine list, and you are all set for a memorable night out.
Bertrand at Mister A’s
Bertrand at Mister A’s is another restaurant that has seen some engagements occur at its tables. It’s no surprise why someone may want to pick it to pop the question at this romantic San Diego restaurant – Mister A’s provides a penthouse view of the entire San Diego downtown skyline with the deep blue harbor twinkling in the background. It also puts a focus on American cuisine with creative twists, served up on a crisp white tablecloth. You and your honey can dine in comfort on the upholstered chairs while enjoying a glass of wine from the international wine list.
You might not be able to take your love to Paris, but you can still treat him or her to some French cuisine in a setting that feels like you’ve stumbled into a French chateau. Such a place exists in tony Rancho Santa Fe in the form of Mille Fleurs restaurant. The cuisine infuses California twists into its French elements and friendly servers present your meal on white tablecloth draped tables placed around the honey-colored room with charming exposed beams in the ceilings. Ask to be seated by the fireplace for an exceptionally romantic evening.
If you live in San Diego then you likely love the ocean, therefore it doesn’t get much more romantic than to combine a delicious dinner on the sand with a close-up of the crashing waves of the ocean. Thanks to the gorgeous and gourmet Marine Room, you don’t have to set up a picnic on the beach to achieve this. Located along La Jolla Shores, the Marine Room is located right on the beach with massive floor to ceiling windows that look out over the wide Pacific. During high tide, the waves come tantalizingly close to the windows, some nights even crashing into them.
It gives an air of excitement to the fine dining room, providing an ideal setting for romance.
If you’re looking for romance, but don’t really want to head to one of the high-end restaurants located above, head to Pacific Beach. PB may not seem like a likely place for romance, but leave the bars of Garnet Avenue behind and turn down Cass Street and soon you’ll come to a cozy little trattoria called Enoteca Adriano residing in a converted cottage. Inside, you’ll find a warm and welcoming setting that seems to have been plucked straight from a coastal Italian town. While the inside is charming and a great place to enjoy a lovely date, reserve one of the patio tables for extra romance.
You’ll have more privacy from other diners and will get to enjoy the warm San Diego weather while enjoying a glass of Italian wine.
Don’t forget to make a reservation far in advance if booking for Valentine’s Day or another holiday – these restaurants book up quickly and even on a normal weekend night you’ll likely need a reservation to get a table at a decent time. Buon appetito!
