The falls, which inspired Longfellow's legendary love poem The Song of Hiawatha about Hiawatha and his lover, Minnehaha. See the falls and the sculpture of Hiawatha carrying Minnehaha. Minnehaha park is very busy and popular for picnics in the summer but is almost more dramatic in the winter when the falls freeze into a wall of ice.

The Stone Arch Bridge
Arguably one of the best views in the city. The Stone Arch pedestrian bridge spans the Mississippi River in the heart of old Minneapolis, with a view of St. Anthony Falls, historic mill ruins, industrial buildings, and modern skyscrapers. Stroll over the bridge, then have a drink in one of the bars on the east side of the river, or visit the Guthrie Theater on the west side.

The Guthrie Theater
Taking your date to a play is only one option at the Guthrie Theater. The curvaceous dark blue building is free to visit and has a couple of restaurants and bars, and plenty for architecture lovers to gawk at. The best part of the Guthrie is the Endless Bridge jutting out over the Mississippi River, several floors up. It's one of the best places to watch the sunset in the Twin Cities.

Imagine evening skating hand-in-hand with your beloved, surrounded by twinkling city lights, then warming up together with mugs of hot chocolate. Downtown St. Paul and Downtown Minneapolis both have free ice rinks. You can also skate at Lake of the Isles, and there are also plenty more free places to skate in the Twin Cities.Continue to 5 of 6 below.

The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden
The giant art is a good way to spark conversation, it's free, and it's open until midnight. And if the weather turns nasty, art lovers can head to the Walker Art Center over the road.

Lyndale Park Rose Garden
Lyndale Park Rose Garden, on the shore of Lake Harriet, has over 3,000 roses. It's a very popular place for weddings, but if your relationship isn't quite at that stage yet, it's a lovely starting place for a walk around Lake Harriet.
