If you want to let someone else do the cooking on Thanksgiving, you have several choices of restaurants that are open on Thanksgiving in the Detroit area. You'll find something to please your palate from buffets to traditional dinners with all the trimmings. Many of these places get booked up quickly; call for a reservation or get on a waiting list. Several of these restaurants also offer Thanksgiving to-go if you'd rather not cook but want to eat the traditional feast at home.
The Rugby Grille
The Rugby Grille at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham offers an elegant four-course prix-fixe Thanksgiving menu on Thanksgiving Day, with seating times at 12:30 p.m., 3 p.m., 5:30 p.m, or 8 p.m. Entree choices in the past have included wild salmon, cider-brined turkey, and prime rib, plus all of the typical turkey day side dishes.
The Moose Preserve in Bloomfield Hills offers both its regular menu and a special Thanksgiving menu for purists, including turkey, cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and cranberry sauce. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving in 2019, and even though walk-ins are accepted based on availability, reservations are highly recommended.
Ernie's in Clinton Township offers an all-you-can-eat Thanksgiving buffet with over 65 food options, including roasted Michigan turkey, grandma's dressing, and candied yams, available from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. If you aren't an aficionado in the kitchen and prefer to bring the food home, you can pre-order a full Thanksgiving meal that feeds up to 10 people.
The Vintage House in Fraser hosts two seatings for Thanksgiving dinner at noon and 4 p.m in 2019. It's also one of the more affordable options. The huge menu includes turkey, roast beef, and ham; sides like stuffing, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and penne rigate with meat sauce; jellied cranberries; and a host of holiday desserts. You can also get Thanksgiving to-go that will serve turkey and all the trimmings for 15 to 20 guests.
The Golden Fox and Fox Classic at Fox Hills Golf Club in Plymouth both offer a Thanksgiving Day brunch in 2019 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Golden Fox brunch offers breakfast choices and traditional Thanksgiving turkey and sides, along with other entrees, carving board meats, large salads, seafood, and a wide choice of desserts. The Fox Classic brunch is an abbreviated version of the Golden Fox's, and there are no breakfast items on the menu.
Eddie V's in Troy is an elegant seafood restaurant, but on Thanksgiving Day it will be serving a more traditional holiday menu with slow-roasted turkey, brioche sage stuffing, whipped potatoes, and more. The regular seafood menu is also available to enjoy if you prefer to crack lobster or slurp on oysters over the traditional fare.
To enjoy an elegant Thanksgiving meal, make reservations at the Whitney. This mansion from the turn of the century offers a special holiday menu with savory turkey, sage and brioche stuffing, cheddar potatoes, green beans almandine, and cranberries. The menu very includes a to-go box of turkey so you are assured some Thanksgiving leftovers.
