Winter break for the Washoe County School District is December 22, 2014 to January 9, 2015. Winter break camps are a great way to keep the kids occupied during the winter holiday season. The cities of Reno and Sparks offer camps with a variety of activities for grade school children and young teens. 2014 - 2015 Winter Break Camps and Activities in Reno
Vacation Station - Vacation Station operates during some school track breaks, summer vacation, and the winter and spring break holidays. Kids ages 6 to 14 can participate in sports, swimming, arts and crafts, movies, and more. Hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The cost at these locations is $100 per week or $30 per day for drop-ins. It is $80 for weeks with only 4 days (no programs on December 25, 2014 and January 1, 2015).

Holiday Art Camps from VSA Nevada - VSA Nevada is holding several one-day Holiday Art Camps at its Lake Mansion location, 250 Court Street in Reno.
The camps are for kids ages 6 to 10 years and the cost is $20 per day. Times are 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The dates are December 19, 22, 23, 29, and 30, 2014. There will be two sessions of Winter Break Art Camp. January 5 through 9, 2015, will be at the Lake Mansion in Reno ($95). January 5 through 8, 2015, will be at the Alf Sorensen Community Center in Sparks ($75).

Winter Break Clay Camp at the Nevada Museum of Art - Kids ages 7 to 12 will have fun exploring the tactile nature of clay. Instruction will encompass basic hand building, throwing on the wheel, and sculpture. In this 5 day camp, students will learn about the basics of pottery, glazing and the transformation of their pieces from the heat of kiln. The camp is 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon, January 5 to 9, 2015. Winter Break Camps at The Discovery - The Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum is presenting Winter Camp Discovery sessions for kids from Kindergarten through 7th grades, with different themes for different grade groups. The first week are single day camps on December 22, 23, and 26, 2014. The second week are also single day camps on December 29, 30, 2014, and January 2, 2015. A full week camp will run from January 5 through 9, 2015. Costs vary, so visit the website for details and to register online.

Schools Out Skate at Roller Kingdom - Winter break roller skating sessions will be offered at Roller Kingdom from December 19 to 31, 2014 (except Christmas Day) and from January 2 to 9, 2015. The sessions will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and cost $4.75, which includes skates. Roller Kingdom is at 515 E. 7th Street in Reno. For more information, call (775) 329-3472.
Winter Break Scene Study Camp by KidScape Productions - This camp week will take actors (ages 6 to 17) through the basics of scene study in the theater. Students will begin to explore the world of acting through storytelling and short scenes.
Be ready for a fun-filled week of jumping into the magic of the stage. Performance for parents on the final day. The camp will be from January 5 through 9, 2015. Christmas Capers Holiday Camp from the City of Sparks - The winter break program is for children in kindergarten through 6th grade. The first week session is from December 22 through 26 (except Christmas Day), 2014. All session run from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The second week is from December 29, 2014 to January 2, 2015 (except New Year's Day), and the third session is from January 5 through 9, 2015. All will be at the Sparks Recreation Gym, 98 Richards Way. The program offers field trips, sports, games, crafts and more. The per day drop-in rate is $43, $36 for Sparks residents.
