Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) is the busiest shopping day of the year around Reno and Sparks. In 2014, it will be on November 28. Most big stores and shopping malls will be open early and stay open for extended hours. Reno and Sparks shoppers will find lots of bargains on all kinds of merchandise as retailers try to make the best of the holiday shopping season. If you have the money and get out early, you'll undoubtedly find some extra good bargains as stores slash prices to move the merchandise.
Black Friday has turned into Black November. Retailers have been aggressively pushing bargains and trying to lure shoppers since the end of October. Not only will you find major deals in the stores well before Black Friday, you'll also find online shopping to be burgeoning with bargains and incentives like free shipping. Check around online and you may not even want to fight the mall wars on Black Friday.
And how about if we send these big retail corporations a message and don't shop on Thanksgiving Day. The creeping trend to open on the holiday rather than waiting until Friday is getting worse each year. The only way it will stop is if shoppers simply don't cooperate. Let's enjoy Thanksgiving with family and friends and let employees of these stores do the same.
Big box stores aren't the only choice for Black Friday shopping, nor do they necessarily have what you are looking for.
Locally owned Reno-area stores are certainly worth a look during the holiday shopping season. Another significant plus to spending your money in hometown stores is that money spent in the Truckee Meadows stays in the Truckee Meadows. It circulates around the area with a multiplier effect, benefiting the economy here rather than being siphoned off to anonymous corporations in other states and countries.
