After beginning her career as an editor at the early stages of Groupon, her professional journey proceeded through sites such as The Wirecutter and travel startups Porter & Sail and kimkim. As a freelancer, her work has spanned gear reviews for Travel + Leisure, driftwood art for Atlas Obscura, sextech hackathons for New York magazine, the haunted house beat, and more. Meanwhile, her personal travels have taken her to more than 25 countries, and she has a special fondness for women-owned startups, obscure roadside attractions, and the ongoing search for the perfect cannoli.


Rena graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. She also holds a DELE level A2 Spanish language certification.
