With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season in full swing, it can be somewhat challenging to find the time or energy to cook a great Thanksgiving dinner for the family. Fortunately, Sacramento is full of great restaurants, grocery stores, and specialty shops where you can pick up a full feast-to-go. There are even some spots where you can dine-in for your holiday meal.
Below you'll find a resource guide to purchasing your Thanksgiving meal from Whole Foods Market, Trader Joe's, Sacramento Natural Foods Co-Op, Nob Hill Grocery, and Raley's Supermarkets. Each of these meals comes with a variety of sides and selections to complete your holiday feast.
Remember that with all stores, especially as the holiday itself draws nearer, the stock may be limited, so you'll want to place your order well in advance to ensure that you are not left without a turkey or holiday ham this Thanksgiving.
Whole Foods Market
With locations in Davis, Sacramento, Roseville, and Folsom, Whole Foods Market offers both dinner packages and fully cooked a la carte items, and you can even order seafood, desserts, and floral arrangements for this Thanksgiving. Their best deal is the traditional roasted turkey dinner, which serves eight and includes a fully cooked turkey, herb-spiced stuffing, mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, cranberry relish, 12 dinner rolls, and a pumpkin pie. However, you must order your Thanksgiving dinner in advance, so don’t delay.
Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op
The Sacramento Natural Foods Co-Op offers a wide array of Thanksgiving food for purchase, and also hosts the annual Turkey Try-Athalon, an in-store tasting fair where you can try samples of all the turkeys sold by the co-op side by side to see which is best for your family. You can also join the co-op for a cooking class that will show you how to cook Thanksgiving favorites here in Sacramento without a lot of strife.
Trader Joe’s also sells fully-cooked turkeys that are all-natural and ready to serve, or you can also roast one yourself and take advantage of the wide selection of deliciously prepared sides. With two locations in Sacramento and locations in Fair Oaks and Roseville, Trader Joe’s is always fun to visit thanks to its Hawaiian shirt-wearing employees and upbeat vibe that makes holiday grocery shopping stress-free. The stores also stock some unique products you can’t easily find elsewhere including Brussels sprouts stalks, turkey-less stuffed roast, pecan pie ice cream, and cranberry walnut loaf.
If you're not looking to do any sort of preparation on Thanksgiving, Raley’s Supermarkets is your one-stop shop for a fully-cooked holiday feast, but you'll have to order in advance on the company's website to secure one of these delightful meals. Still, Raley's many locations in the Sacramento area offer the best deals around for a full spread to serve up to 10 people.
At any of their locations, you'll start with a selection of meat (either turkey or ham), then add in as many sides as you'd like, including cornbread herb stuffing with carrots, onions, and celery, five pounds of fresh creamy mashed potatoes, 24 ounces of homestyle gravy, 32 ounces of broccoli, cheese, and rice casserole, 10 ounces of cranberry applesauce, a dozen bakery-fresh butter and egg rolls, and a nine-inch pumpkin pie.
However, at the sister store Nob Hill, you'll find a more gourmet version of these holiday favorites that comes with an uncooked turkey breast you roast in the oven (with everything else ready to eat). Gourmet sides for the Nob Hill location include ciabatta bread stuffing with fresh celery, onions, carrots, herbs, and parmesan cheese; all-natural mashed potatoes; savory turkey gravy; steamed green beans almondine; roasted citrus orange-glazed sweet potatoes; whole cranberry orange sauce; sweet dinner rolls; and an all-natural pumpkin pie.
Turkey not your thing? You can also purchase a bourbon maple glazed ham dinner through Raley’s, which includes a spiral ham, cheesy mashed potatoes gratin, green beans, carrots, rolls, and an apple pie. Be sure to order any of the above meals in advance by contacting the store of your choice directly, and remember, Thanksgiving orders should be placed at least one week in advance to ensure proper stock.
