Puerto Vallarta, on the west coast of Mexico, is one of the favorite tourist spots in the area. It welcomes the LGBTQ community with gay-friendly bars, nightclubs, bathhouses, and strip clubs. You don't have to go far in Puerto Vallarta to find the main venue for gay cruising and hooking up. Start at the Zona Romantic district, which is known for its LGBTQ establishments.

Gay Bathhouses

Popular Spartacus Spa is a spacious, four-floor complex with a large rooftop deck in the center of the Zona Romantic district, this lively resort city's premier gay neighborhood.

It's on the same street corner as the lively gay bar CC Slaughter's, and just a few steps from other notable LGBTQ nightspots like Paco's Ranch, La Noche, Fiesta Bar, and La Margarita.

The expansive complex is open daily, typically from 2 p.m. until 2 a.m., but on Fridays and Saturdays, it remains open continuously throughout the night until 9 a.m. the following day. Not surprisingly, these wee hours on the weekends, after some of the nearby bars have closed, are when it can get especially lively in here. The 18-and-over facility has lockers and private cabins. You enter on the second floor, where you'll also find lockers. Downstairs is the shower area, and on the third floor, you'll encounter the section with private rooms, plus several group spaces, including an area showing gay porn. Although meeting for sex is clearly the main reason most guys come to Spartacus, the top-floor is popular for other reasons, too—here you'll find a pool as well as a large sundeck that's simply a nice place to hang out and relax or socialize, especially if you're staying someplace that isn't clothing-optional.

Men's Strip Clubs

Spartacus is the only gay bathhouse in Puerto Vallarta, but there are a couple of highly cruise-y men's strip clubs nearby. Just up the street, Wet Dreams is a fun place to watch hunky guys dancing and strip on a stage with showers. It is open every day from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. And just a 10-minute stroll north of Zona Romantica, just across the Rio Caule in El Centro, Antropology is a long-running and quite famous strip bar with a large stable of hot, generally very young guys.

It is larger and a bit more upscale than Wet Dreams. Here, private dances are available, and fans of this racy spot tend to rave about them. It's not far from the famed Malecon, or boardwalk.

LGBTQ Customs in Mexico

Latin America has some of the most progressive LGBTQ laws, and gay marriage is legal in Mexico. Plus, almost every major city in Mexico hosts gay pride events that celebrate LGBTQ people. But no matter where you are, it's always smart to stay safe and aware of your surroundings, no matter what sexual orientation you align with.
