Holland America Line operates 14 ships that sail to every continent, visiting over 415 ports of call on over 500 cruises to 98 countries.

Holland America Line has a long tradition of excellence in every area. The cruise line is dedicated to providing "once-in-a-lifetime" travel experiences for each guest. Holland America Line has a strong commitment to social and environmental responsibility, ranging from sponsoring cancer fundraising walks to promoting recycling on all of its ships. The Holland America Line Foundation contributes money and provides fundraising opportunities to charitable organizations in the US and Canada.

Cruise participant demographics are not available from Holland America Line. Anecdotal evidence indicates that most Holland America Line cruise participants are senior travelers.

Single Traveler Information

Single travelers must pay a supplement, which varies from 150 – 200% of the double-occupancy rate. Holland America Line offers a Single Partners Program; participants are matched with same-sex roommates and pay the double-occupancy rate. The Single Partners Program also includes activities and classes for solo travelers. On select cruises that last 40 days or longer, Social Hosts are available to act as dancing partners for women traveling solo. (Note: This program is not available on Grand Voyages.)

Cost

Varies by cruise length and type of stateroom. Prices range from $79 for a one-day spring or fall Pacific Coast trip (inside stateroom) to $17,199 for a 113-day Grand World Voyage (inside stateroom). Outside staterooms and suites command higher prices.

Holland America Line offers cruises to every continent as well as Panama Canal cruises and world-wide journeys.

Each ship features several dining options, including the main dining room, Lido buffet and the Pinnacle Grill, a gourmet alternative dining experience (extra charges apply for the Pinnacle Grill).

Evening dress codes include "Smart Casual" and "Formal." On one-week cruises, there are usually two formal nights.

Shore excursions vary by cruise. Holland America Line owns a private island, Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas.

You can book a cruise online, by telephone or through your travel agent.

You are responsible for obtaining your own travel documents, including passports and visas. If you are traveling to an area where yellow fever is endemic, you should consult with your doctor. Be aware that many countries share borders with countries where yellow fever is endemic require travelers to provide proof of immunization against yellow fever as a condition of entry.

If you need to use supplemental oxygen during your cruise, you must arrange for it yourself. Holland America works with two approved oxygen providers, Special Needs at Sea and CareVacations / Scootaround.

Passengers with food allergies or special dietary needs can usually be accommodated. Holland America Line's website includes information on how to notify the cruise line of your dietary requirements. Do this as far in advance as possible.

Passengers on cruises of seven days or longer can join the Mariner Society for free; membership includes special pricing on some cruises, champagne receptions and more.

The cruise line offers two optional cancellation protection plans. Both plans include Cancel for Any Reason coverage and limited baggage protection coverage. The Platinum plan also includes trip interruption, trip delay, emergency evacuation / repatriation and emergency medical expense coverage.

Holland America Line's ships are mid-sized, with capacities ranging from 835 to 2,648 passengers.

Each ship has at least one staff doctor and at least two registered nurses on board. Limited pharmacy services are available.

Twelve Holland America Line ships have wheelchair-accessible tenders to bring passengers ashore when the ship cannot anchor pierside. All ships have a limited number of accessible staterooms and all public areas aboard ship are accessible. If you use a wheelchair or will be accompanied by a service animal, you must notify Holland America in writing when you book your cruise.
