Nearly every ship in the Princess Cruises' fleet has a dedicated Youth and Teen Center with plenty of activities offered and supervised by professional staff. Starting with the Regal Princess, the company partnered with the Discovery Communications, the parent company of the Discovery Channel, to bring a new family program of onboard and ashore activities to its ships called Discovery at Sea.
Activities and Things to Do
The Youth and Teen Centers have everything from arts and crafts corners, games tables, movies and splash pools to Teen Centers with ping-pong tables, jukeboxes, and all the latest video games. Some of the Princess Cruises' ships even offer a toddlers' play area, splash pool, computers, and video games. And for teens, special hideouts - Cyberspace, The Fast Lane, Wired and Off Limits - provide memories the kids will remember for years. In addition, some ships have a separate hot tub and deck area for the teens.
All Youth and Teen Centers are fully supervised by Princess' Youth and Teen Staff. Not all kids like to eat grown-up food at mealtime, so the ships offer a special children's menu onboard all Princess ships.
Princess Kids Program features Princess Pelicans, ages 3-7, and Shockwaves, ages 8-12. These kids are entertained with non-stop youth program activities such as:
- Arts and crafts
- Videos and cartoons
- Scavenger hunts
- Galley tours
- Sports tournaments
- Backstage tours
- Bridge tours
- Disco nights
- Ice cream parties
Remix, designed for teens ages 13 to 17, offers a wide range of activities such as:
- Teens-only disco parties
- Teens-only dinner events
- Shipboard Olympics
- T-Shirt painting
- Basketball tournaments
- Pelican's Perch - Kids can make the most of their island adventure in this supervised play area on Princess' own private island, Princess Cays. This special playground is supervised by the shipboard Youth Staff and provides a safe place for children while parents enjoy the many beach amenities and water sports offered.
- Shore Happenings - When the Princess cruise ship is in port, the kids will find as much to do on land as there is on board. The Adventures Ashore Program offers tours appealing to explorers of all ages.
- Pizza Party - One night during the cruise, a pizza party is offered which lets children dine without parents in the company of all their friends.
- Children's TV Programming - TV programs appropriate for children, including cartoons, movies, and award-winning programs may be shown on the in-stateroom television during the early morning hours, midday, and early evening.
Family Cruising Tips
Personal Choice Dining is recommended for families who want to dine together so that children may fully participate in the evening youth activities.
The dining alternatives allow parents the freedom to spend time with their children while they eat an early dinner in the pizzeria, in the 24-hour restaurant offering a special children's menu, in the stateroom with 24-hour room service or in one of the many alternative locations.
After taking the children to the supervised Youth Center, parents can then enjoy dining on their own in the elegant dining rooms. Many of the shore excursions have been planned with family cruisers in mind. Discounted rates for children and "family-friendly" activities are available to make the most of the time in port. The Adventures Ashore brochure has details on these activities.
On embarkation day, the kid's schedule of activities for the entire cruise is delivered to the cabins.
