Official Tree Lighting Ceremonies

Light Up Night Stages

Market Square 5:00–9:30 p.m.
Countdown with Santa as he flips the giant switch to the dazzling BNY Mellon Season of Lights with more than 150,000 lights and 30’ high electronic sphere tree. Every half hour Market Square is transformed with a glittering wonderland show synchronized with high-energy music medley followed by a mini-concert with Jeff Jimerson and Airborne.

Roberto Clemente Bridge 5:00–9:30 p.m.
Get set for a rockin’ blues party over the Allegheny River with some of Pittsburgh’s most iconic musical performers and an array of food and tasty treats.

BNY MELLON FIREWORKS FINALE - 9:38 p.m.
Launched from the Warhol Bridge, one of Pittsburgh’s most spectacular displays by the first family of pyrotechnics, Zambelli Internationale, including the Light Up Night signature Niagara Falls of fireworks, all synchronized to a live holiday broadcast on 3WS 94.5 FM.

Mellon Square 8:00–10:00 p.m.
Smithfield Street is closed for a dance party with lasers, bubble machines and music that will get you moving! Upstairs the newly renovated Mellon Square is transformed into an inviting bistro with a tasty selection of hot food.

EQT Plaza 5:00 – 9:15 p.m. The velvet virtuosos of Pittsburgh’s world-class jazz scene come together for an all-night jam led by Roger Humphries and RH Factor joined by local legends Etta Cox, Al Dowe, Michele Bensen, Spanky Wilson and Kenny Blake. Hot foods and tasty treats available.

PPG Place Plaza & Ice Skating

4:45 - 8:30 p.m.
  • The Rink at PPG Place
    Light Up Night is opening day for Downtown Pittsburgh's outdoor skating rink. Enjoy an exhilarating holiday tradition as you glide around the breathtaking 65’ Christmas tree on the PPG Place Plaza ice rink as it opens for its 13th season. Robert Morris University Island Sport Center’s Figure Skating Academy will kick off the holiday season at 4:45 p.m. with an on-ice interpretation of Polar Express, followed by a 5:00 p.m. performance of the CLO Mini Stars. Enjoy music by Brigid's Cross in PPG Place Food Court between 5:00 and 8:30 p.m. The rink will remain open until midnight on Light Up Night.
  • American Cancer Society's Tribute of Light/Plaza Tree Lighting
    5:30 - 6:00 p.m. The Plaza will glisten with the glow of lights as over 300 individuals carrying hand-held Tribute of Light memorials will surround The Rink at PPG Place. Each candle will be dedicated in the name of someone touched by cancer. The ceremony culminates with the lighting of the 65-foot Plaza Christmas tree. All proceeds from this event benefit the American Cancer Society.

Holiday exhibits in PPG Place open, including Spirits of Giving From Around the World and the 11th annual Gingerbread House & Train Display.

Fifth Avenue Place

5:00 - 9:00 p.m.
  • Join one of Pittsburgh’s best known neighbors, Mr. McFeely, thousands of Pittsburghers, majestic bagpipers and a splash of fireworks to kick off the official lighting of the historic Unity Tree – presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. The Shops, Food Court and Caffè Amante will be open until 9:00 p.m. with many eateries open later.
  • Explore Pittsburgh’s own North Pole at the Fifth Avenue FREEZE with icy life-sized carvings of Santa and Rudolph, plus ice angels, penguins, elves, and more. Catch live ice carving shows, and kids can test their skills at Arctic games.
  • Enjoy live musical performances by:
    4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Roger Barbour Jazz Quartet
    7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Max Leak Trio
  • Unity Tree Lighting with Rooftop Fireworks at the corner of Penn Avenue & Stanwix, 7:00 p.m.

National recording artist, Mark Milovats, along with the Santa Belles and the Duquesne Dance Team, will put everyone into the spirit with a great holiday concert.
