Unfortunately, up until recently, pet owners in India haven't had many options for pet vacations. The concept of pet-friendly hotels in India is quite new. However, the good news is that it is catching on!

There are a couple of really useful websites that can help you plan a pet vacation. Pet Vacations lists more than 500 pet friendly hotels, bungalows, resorts, serviced apartments and homestays all over India. Another excellent concept, Mumbai-based Crazy K9 Campers organizes weekend getaways and pet camps in various locations in Maharashtra, where you can take your pet and enjoy the great outdoors.

Have a look at the properties listed below to get some inspiration for your pet vacation in India. These diverse pet-friendly accommodations all receive excellent reviews. Many of them have pets of their own too! Their pet policies do vary, so make sure you check with them individually. Most allow pets to stay for free.

One of Goa's glorious homestays, Arco Iris is a restored 200 year old Goan house that overlooks a seasonal lake, inland in south Goa (it's not far from Margao). The property is run as a heritage Noble Home by Neemrana Hotels. It has four bedrooms, three of which open onto private balconies. The hosts, who are a couple with two children, own a Labrador called Feni and a Beagle called Raffa.

You can even get a bullock cart driving license. They offer free breakfast and free Wi-Fi. Feel like rejuvenating? There's a spa there too!
