Unfortunately, up until recently, pet owners in India haven't had many options for pet vacations. The concept of pet-friendly hotels in India is quite new. However, the good news is that it is catching on!
There are a couple of really useful websites that can help you plan a pet vacation. Pet Vacations lists more than 500 pet friendly hotels, bungalows, resorts, serviced apartments and homestays all over India. Another excellent concept, Mumbai-based Crazy K9 Campers organizes weekend getaways and pet camps in various locations in Maharashtra, where you can take your pet and enjoy the great outdoors.
Have a look at the properties listed below to get some inspiration for your pet vacation in India. These diverse pet-friendly accommodations all receive excellent reviews. Many of them have pets of their own too! Their pet policies do vary, so make sure you check with them individually. Most allow pets to stay for free.
One of Goa's glorious homestays, Arco Iris is a restored 200 year old Goan house that overlooks a seasonal lake, inland in south Goa (it's not far from Margao). The property is run as a heritage Noble Home by Neemrana Hotels. It has four bedrooms, three of which open onto private balconies. The hosts, who are a couple with two children, own a Labrador called Feni and a Beagle called Raffa.

Eco-friendly Emerald Trail is a nature lover's dream. Located 6,000 feet above sea level, with forest on one side and the Kumaon Valley on the other, it offers tranquility, fresh air, and three acres of space for your pet to run around. The main house has four rooms with attached bathrooms, common living and dining area, and adjoining kitchen. There's also a separate quaint cottage that can accommodate up to five guests.

Lush Greenex Farms is a combination of coffee farm and resort, with a wide range of accommodations on offer. Choose from a luxurious tree house, eco-friendly and architecturally designed cottages, a restored old farmer's home and a bunker that accommodates 12 guests dormitory style. Swim in the pond, relax by the campfire, drink tea, play badminton and go cycling, trekking, or birding. Their Avira restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch. It's a family and pet-friendly paradise!

Destiny is one of the top farmstays in India and your pet will feel right at home there. The farm has a menagerie of its own animals -- a stable full of horses, cows, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs, geese and farm dogs to watch over them all! It's a fully working farm that grows a huge variety of produce. Kids will love it just as much as your pet does! Adults don't miss out either, as there's also the Unwind Spa and Restaurant.

Another of India's top eco-friendly accommodations, as its name suggests, Our Native Village is a resort that's set up to recreate a village atmosphere (albeit a luxurious one!). There is ample space for your pet to run around while you can participate in activities such as cow milking, bullock cart rides, kite flying, bicycle riding and organic farming. You can even get a bullock cart driving license. They offer free breakfast and free Wi-Fi. Feel like rejuvenating? There's a spa there too!

Take you pet glamping (that's glamorous camping) with you at Foothills about ten minutes from Pushkar. As its name suggests, the property is surrounded by hills with nature all around. Possibly activities include walking, hiking and bird watching. There are eight spacious luxury tents on the property, all with attached bathrooms. The chilled-out owner also has a couple of welcoming Labrador dogs and cat, which live there.

The Dune Eco Village and Spa, Pondicherry
Not only is The Dune Eco Village and Spa an inspiring artist hotel and one of India's top eco-friendly hotels, it's also been pet-friendly from the time it opened in accordance with its focus on natural living and nature conservation. This magical property is situated on 35 acres of beachfront land around 20 minutes drive from Pondicherry. It has 55 unique and eclectic bungalows, along with four dogs that are popular with guests. There are two restaurants, F.U.N. ("Food U Need") and Seafood Cafe.

Deer Park Villa is one of the few places in the city to welcome pets. This cheerful homestay is located in south Delhi's posh Safdarjang Enclave, around 10- minutes walk from sprawling Deer Park. It's perfect for your dog to frolic in (on a leash)! The homestay has six air-conditioned guest bedrooms with small balconies in a spotlessly clean new building. There's a sunny terrace on the rooftop, ideal for relaxing. You won't need to worry about traffic noise either, as the area is super quiet. Yet, it's close to trendy Haus Khas Village.
