With the influx of tourists, it's increasingly difficult to find street parking in Brooklyn. If you are lucky enough to secure a parking spot on the street, it may not be the best option if you're headed to a two- or three-hour concert or a leisurely dinner, as most spots have a one-hour meter limit. If you risk going over your meter time, you can absolutely expect a ticket at the very least, and possibly a tow, as the meter-minders are attentive and do write tickets promptly, even seconds after a meter expires.

For these reasons, public transit is your best bet to get to downtown Brooklyn and the cultural hub around the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). If you choose to take the subway, you have 11 lines to choose from, or by bus if you prefer. If you arriving via bicycle, the Barclays Center has free bike parking for up to 400 bikes directly on site, but it is on a first-come, first-served basis. However, if this option does not work for you, continue reading to learn the best places to park your car in Fort Greene.

Atlantic Center Malls Parking

There is affordable underground parking located at the Atlantic Center Mall, behind the Pathmark Supermarket Store. This lot is also just one block away from the indoor location of the Brooklyn Flea when it is held at the historic Williamsburg Savings Bank location during the colder months.

However, the Atlantic Center Mall parking lot closes early, so those planning to have dinner in the neighborhood, or who are attending an evening performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music should park at the academy's parking lot instead.

Barclays Center Parking

If you are planning to go to a concert or show at Barclays Center, you should know that the center does not have on-site parking.

This 18,000 seat venue was built at its current location because of its proximity to the Atlantic Avenue subway station, which has nearly every subway line in New York City, plus a Long Island Railroad (LIRR) Station. It was designed with the assumption that patrons would choose to use public transportation in order to save time and money, and reduce stress.

Other Local Garages

If you cannot find parking at the Atlantic Center Mall, you might have to use a private garage nearby. This is by far the most expensive option, exceeding $40 an hour, in some cases, but doing a bit of research in advance can help reduce costs.

Websites like ParkWhiz offer significant discounts if you prepay before arriving. You can also bring up a map of your location, and choose your garage based on proximity to the venue, or cost.
