Paradisus Cancun is an all-inclusive beachfront resort in the Cancun hotel zone. Housed in a series of five pyramidal structures, this is a large resort, with a wide array of services and amenities. The resort has four free-form swimming pools, nine restaurants featuring Mexican and international cuisines, a full service spa and health club, tennis court, a 9-hole par-3 golf course, and over 10,000 square feet of meeting and convention space
Paradisus Cancun caters to a wide range of visitors looking for an upscale all-inclusive vacation. The Royal Service section of the resort is adult-only, but the Family Concierge area is geared especially toward families with children. The resort tries to please everyone and generally does a good job. The resort is a recipient of the AAA Four Diamond award.
Paradisus Cancun is located 12 miles (approximately 20 minutes) from the Cancun International Airport in the Cancun Hotel Zone. This property was formerly the Gran Meliá, and was transformed into the Paradisus Cancun in November 2012. The Paradisus chain is owned by Meliá Hotels International, which also owns the ME Hotels chain.
Guest Rooms at Paradisus Cancun
The Paradisus Cancun resort has 668 suites, 136 of which are Royal Service Suites, and 97 Family Concierge Suites. Each of the suites has a large private balcony with views of either the Caribbean Sea or the Nichupte Lagoon. I stayed in a Royal Service suite on the sixth floor with a view of the lagoon. Lagoon side rooms have great views of sunsets, but the main road running through the Cancun hotel zone is between the resort and the lagoon.
Room numbers can be confusing: the first digit doesn't refer to the floor, but rather to which pyramid - numbers 1 through 5, the second digit is the floor and the final two digits refer to the actual room. My suite was spacious, with a king size bed and a 32" flat screen TV. There was a sofa and several chairs. The complimentary mini-bar is replenished daily with beer, soft drinks, juice and water.
The bathroom has a bathtub with rain shower, a single sink, and a partitioned area for the toilet and a bidet. Bath amenities by Mugler come in small triangular containers.
Dining at Paradisus Cancun
The Paradisus Cancun resort has nine restaurants. Naos is the largest restaurant and offers international buffet meals throughout the day. La Palapa is a pool-side restaurant exclusively for Royal Service guests. Bana, pictured here, is an Asian-fusion restaurant which serves sushi and other Asian specialties. Dinner reservations are required for many of the resort's a la carte restaurants. Room service is also offered around the clock.
Mexican Flavors at Paradisus Cancun
Many all-inclusive resorts lack a sense of place, so it's always a pleasure to see authentic Mexican touches like the Blue Agave restaurant at Paradisus Cancun. Here you can enjoy some of the real flavors of Mexico and enjoy tacos, tequila and beer and feel like you're at a local taquería.
More upscale Mexican cuisine can be found at Mole Restaurant. Here you can experience the rich flavors of Mexican contemporary cuisine. The traditional meets the modern in décor as well with gorgeous Mexican tiles lining the wall. The best table in the house is in the corner overlooking the Caribbean.
Tempo Restaurant features a tasting menu created by Michelin-starred chef Martin Berasategui. Enjoy a six course meal with wine pairings from the restaurant's award-winning wine cellar, or order a la carte. The restaurant is open to non-guests and provides a glamorous atmosphere perfect for intimate conversations over long dinners. Dinner here entails an extra charge, but it is well worth it for an outstanding meal.
Royal Service: Adult-Only Luxury
Travelers looking to enjoy a child-free environment will be happy in the Royal Service section of the resort. With the Royal Service upgrade at Paradisus Cancun, guests enjoy an adult-only environment with preferential service which includes private check-in and check-out, an exclusive pool with Bali beds, pool and beach concierge, and butler service. There is a Royal Service lounge where breakfast is offered daily, and a self-serve bar is set up from noon onwards.
Paradisus Cancun for Families
Visiting families who opt for the Family Concierge at Paradisus Cancun are directed upon arrival to the family welcome lounge for check-in, where children are given a backpack welcome kit with some special gifts inside. Kids can enjoy supervised play and other activities in the "Kids Zone," as the Paradisus Cancun's kids' club is called. The Kids Zone if quite extensive and offers toys, games and entertainment for children of all ages. Parents are given a cell phone to facilitate communication with concierge service. Family suites include special amenities for children including robes, slippers and kid-size pillows.
