Introducing Sandals Resorts' Over-Water Suites

Each Sandals overwater suite at Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort has a see-through floor window so you can watch marine life swimming below, a floating hammock, private deck, and outdoor shower. Butler service is provided.

Should you want to take a break from looking at and lolling in those shallow pristine waters, there's also a small infinity pool to soak in. 

The standalone bungalows are connected to a shared dock that brings guests to the resort’s exclusive private island, Sandals Cay. It features a restaurant, pool, and beach. Boat transfers from Sandals Cay bring guests to the land-based resort in under 5 minutes.

Note: Since launching the Jamaica overwater bungalows, Sandals has added these unique accommodations to Sandals Grande St. Lucian and Sandals South Coast. 

Like all Sandals Resorts, the overwater units are all-inclusive and for adults only — so there's no chance that your tropical tranquility will be interrupted by the cries and whimpers of the diapered set.

Sandals overwater suites are structured so that couples will feel they are on their own private island. Although there are similar units nearby, each one faces outward with an unobstructed view.

Each air-conditioned unit has three main sections. From left to right:

• Indoor bathroom leading to a relaxation area and small rectangular plunge pool
• Bedroom, living area, and staircase leading down to lounge platform
• Small kitchen/dining area leading to round outdoor bed

You'll feel like you're walking on water in the bedroom of a Sandals overwater suite. Not only do we love the king-size bed, but if you reverse position, lie on your stomach and put your head where your feet were, you can see water and fish flowing underneath the glass floor. It's like watching the world's most relaxing reality show.

It's water, water everywhere in a Sandals overwater suite. Soak indoors in the oversized tub together, take a dip in your private plunge pool a few steps away, or immerse yourselves in the turquoise Caribbean waters that surround you. 

Evening Comes to Overwater Suites

As there are a limited number of these suites, they are in demand and prices are high. Also consider a stay in other accommodations at the romantic, land-based Sandals resorts in the Caribbean. You may even prefer lodging in a rondoval unit, which has its own small, private swimming pool. Rondovals are available at Sandals Grande St. Lucian and Sandals Grande Antigua.  

Introducing Karisma's Overwater Villas in Mexico

These are the first over-the-water offerings in Mexico. Like Sandals' overwater units, Karisma's are part of a larger resort. In this case, they belong to the award-winning, adults-only El Dorado Maroma on the Caribbean-Sea-facing Riviera Maya.

The first phase of Karisma's 30 elegant palafitos offer glass-bottom floors, direct ladder access to the ocean, outdoor showers, private infinity pools, indoor Jacuzzis, and oversized decks with lounge chairs and breathtaking views.

For the full honeymoon experience, pull back the covers and climb into the round bed provided in Karisma's overwater suites. A gauzy net can be draped over the bed and a triangular glass window lies at the foot.

End of Another Perfect Day

Although you may not want to leave your private overwater villa, the offerings at El Dorado Maroma are just across the beach. The resort features three pools, six restaurants, and four bars — and they're included in the all-inclusive price. 

Resort activities, also included, range from dancing, yoga and beach volleyball to cooking lessons, kayaking, and bocce.
