Oktoberfest Celebrations Across the Pittsburgh Region

Modeled after the most famous of German festivals, Oktoberfest was first held in Munich in 1810 as festivities to celebrate a royal wedding. What has since become a beloved heritage festival is now celebrated each fall in locations around the world from approximately mid-September until early October.     September 20–22 and 27–29, 2013
    Penn Brewery pays tribute to the brewery's German heritage at its annual Oktoberfest celebration, to be held September 20–22 and 27–29 at Penn Brewery, located on Pittsburgh's North Side. Over 10,000 guests are expected to attend for Penn's craft beers, hearty German fare, and live Alpine entertainment.

    September 20–22, 2013
    Two blocks of downtown Canonsburg (Washington County) are taken over by this very popular Oktoberfest celebration each fall. Banners and flags line the streets leading to and from the center of the festivities, where you'll find stages with continuous entertainment, plus German cuisine and beer, and a variety of other ethnic foods. Amusement rides and crafters round out the fun.

    Hoist a stein (or two) in the Hofbrauhaus Bier Garten at SouthSide Works. Pennsylvania’s first authentic Hofbräuhaus, modeled after the legendary 400+ year-old Hofbräuhaus in Munich, Germany, claims an "authentic" Oktoberfest as well. German bier (including the same beer served at Munich's Hofbrauhaus), live entertainment, food & fun. What else could you ask for?

    September 7–8 and 14–15, 2013
    Love to visit Idlewild but wish they had more lederhosen and strudel? Idlewild opens for two weekends this September for their first Family Oktoberfest Weekends on September 7–8 and 14–15. Enjoy a showcase of rich tradition with German-style music, oompah bands, a craft fair, and delicious ethnic food, plus the Idlewild rides and attractions that you love.

    Greentree Park will transform this September for the popular Greentree Borough Oktoberfest festival featuring a parade car cruise, fireworks, talent show, tractor pull, German food and more! "THE CHAIN" a Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band, will be performing a 2 hour concert on Sat Sept 14th from 8:00pm- 10:00pm.

    Oktoberfest Weekend at the PA Renaissance Fair

    September 28–29, 2013
    Raise a stein to German heritage with micro-brewed ales at the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival. The final themed weekend of the season features Oktoberfest with traditional German food favorites such as Bratwurst, Sauerkraut, and Chocolates. German Music, dancing, lederhosen and tavern wenches also offer a fun-filled taste of Bavaria.
