A nice meal is not hard to find on New Year's Eve in the Phoenix area. In addition to the Arizona capital's abundance of last-hoorah concerts and NYE parties, its restaurants also celebrate the final hours of the year with special prix-fixe menus, champagne toasts, party favors, dancing, and more. Note that dress codes may be enforced for the special occasion and some restaurants may require payment in advance, so lock down your New Year's plans as soon as possible.
Phoenix City Grille
While many restaurants up the formality for New Year's Eve, Phoenix City Grille stays true to its laidback self. The food is unfussy without compromising on quality—the New Year's Eve 2020 special features New England clam chowder followed by a feast of surf and turf, rock salt-baked prime rib, or sea bass, all served from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., with the final seating at 10 p.m. This North Phoenix institution located in the Madison neighborhood has been serving delicious food at reasonable prices since 1997.
Cafe Monarch is an award-winning Scottsdale eatery (with a downright stately facade) that has repeatedly been called one of the best restaurants in the country. Elegant and decadent, the New American haunt is where you celebrate special occasions, and New Year's Eve is as good of a reason as any to splurge. Cafe Monarch will offer a six-course dinner and champagne toast for $195 on December 31. While it hasn't announced its special menu features, the restaurant says gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options will be available.
Eddie V's in Scottsdale will provide the four-course New Year's Eve dinner of every seafood lover's dreams, including a cocktail shrimp starter followed by your choice of herb-roasted tenderloin with au jus or miso-marinated Chilean sea bass with roasted shiitake mushrooms, and truffle macaroni and cheese, asparagus, and three-cheese au gratin on the side. Bananas foster butter cake served with butter pecan ice cream is the closing act. In 2020, the meal will be available for dine-in or takeout on both December 31 and January 1. The meal can be ordered for two ($150) or four ($250).
The Mission Old Town
Add some Latin flair to your end-of-year celebrations at the Mission Old Town, located in Scottsdale. The menu blends cuisines from Spain, Mexico, Central America, and South America, with dishes like roasted lamb tacos, grilled chorizo porchetta, and swordfish served with Spanish paella rice. In addition to the standard dinner menu, special holiday dishes (to be announced) will also be offered.
At The Gladly—from the creators of Citizen Public House—New American fare meets trendy and impeccably mixed cocktails. The sleek bistro has more than 200 whiskeys to choose from, so if you're looking for a good Manhattan to round the year out, The Gladly has it. For New Year's Eve 2020, it will offer a three-course tasting menu ($60 apiece), including one of three salads or seafood chowder as a starter; scallops, chimichurri chicken, coffee-rubbed short ribs, filet mignon, salmon, or roasted mushrooms with acorn squash as the main; and whiskey bread pudding (obviously) for dessert. You can add on small plates or items from the raw bar as well.
Rusconi's American Kitchen
Serving wood-fired food in a chic and contemporary space, Rusconi's will offer another seafood-packed menu for New Year's Eve 2020. The first course will feature lobster bisque, blue crab and shrimp cake, duck canneloni, fennel-smoked salmon, goat cheese and greens, or braised beef short rib—and that's only the beginning. Following that, you'll be treated to your choice of lamb, grouper, butternut squash ravioli, pork tenderloin, or beef and blue crab. Dessert is either chocolate torte, strawberry and coconut panna cotta, or bananas foster crème brûlée. The three-course meal costs $75 per person.
