When you visit a big city where space is at a premium, it can be difficult to find a hotel with a pool. Nowhere is that truer than in New York City, where hotels are more likely to offer guests access to a nearby health club with a pool than have one on the premises.
Here's a list of kid-friendly New York City hotels where your family won't have to leave the building to have a splashing good time.

The Travel Inn
Midtown West: A good choice for families with tighter budgets, The Travel Inn has 160 decently-sized rooms that come with flat screen TVs, mini fridges and microwaves. Courtyard by Marriott Manhattan/Upper East Side
Upper East Side: This Courtyard by Marriott is in a nice residential East Side neighborhood with lots of good restaurants nearby. Rooms have flatscreen TVs and mini fridges. This hotel is a long walk to the nearest subway line but there are always many taxis in the area. The hotel has a small, indoor 50-foot lap pool. (410 E. 9nd St. at 1st Ave.; 212/410-5777)

Tribeca: This is a good luxury choice if you're in the City with hip teens. The arty, elegant Greenwich Hotel has an ultracool address in Tribeca, a cultured vibe, and a zen indoor pool that can be a relaxing, if not super exciting, place to chill out after a day of sightseeing. Midtown West: Talk about a great location. This luxury hotel has a fabulous address at the epicenter of the city, at the southwest corner of Central Park. On the 35th floor of the plush Mandarin Oriental, the 75-foot three-lane lap pool comes with a view, thanks to enormous floor-to-ceiling windows that offer sweeping vistas across the city skyline. It's good for a workout swim but kids will probably find it too subdued since the pool is part of the hotel's spa complex. (80 Columbus Circle; 212/805-8800)
