Artists' Studios Open House Days: Anvers to Abbesses
Artists and craftsmen working from studios in the Abbesses/Anvers corner of Montmartre are opening their doors to visitors from November 20th through the 22nd. Get an inside look at contemporary art in a district that has always been a creative hotbed.

The Autumn Festival
Since 1972, the Paris Autumn Festival or "Festival de l'Automne" has brought in the post-summer season with a bang by highlighting some of the most compelling works in contemporary visual art, music, cinema, theater, and other forms. Consult the official website for program details (in English).

Salon du Chocolat (Chocolate Trade Fair)
Each year the Porte de Versailles convention center at Paris's south edge hosts a trade event dedicated to all things cocoa, with visitors sampling everything from dark chocolate chunks to savory chocolate-based concoctions featuring foie gras or olive oil.
A runway fashion show showing off zany chocolate couture creations is another highlight. Reserve ahead: This is a popular one, for obvious reasons!

Paris Photo Show at the Grand Palais
November traditionally marks Paris photography month, an annual event launched in 1980 that sees dozens of museums and galleries team up to offer thematically related exhibitions, and featuring the work of established and up-and-coming lenses from around the world. Running during Paris Photography Month which sees numerous shows pop up around the city, the Paris Photo exhibition at the Grand Palais, running November 9th-12th, remains in the late fall lineup; fans of photography should definitely not miss out.

Being Modern: MOMA at the Fondation Louis Vuitton
One of the most hotly anticipated shows of the year, the MOMA at the Fondation Vuitton features hundreds of remarkable works of art generally housed at the world's largest modern art museum in New York City. From Cezanne to Signac and Klimt, to Alexander Calder, Frida Kahlo, Jasper Johns, Laurie Anderson and Jackson Pollock, many of the 20th century's most important artists and their work are highlighted at this exceptional show. Make sure to reserve tickets well ahead to avoid disappointment.

The Art of Pastel, from Degas to Redon
Compared to oils and acrylics, pastels tend to be seen as a less "noble" material for painting, but this exhibit proves that all wrong. The Petit Palais' look at magnificent pastels from nineteenth century and early twentieth-century masters including Edgar Degas. Odilon Redon, Mary Cassatt and Paul Gaugin will make you see the world in a softer-- and quietly sublime-- light.
