A November wedding anniversary can be the best of times, or the most challenging. If you married early in November, you're in luck: It's a slow time in many romantic destinations, and you'll have your pick of accommodations. However, if your anniversary falls late in November, close to Thanksgiving, you will face crowded roads and airports and high rates.

Plan your anniversary getaway to start either two weeks before Thanksgiving, or two weeks after. If the actual date falls between those two, celebrate at a romantic restaurant before you travel.

The "Safe" Caribbean

In November, the risk of hurricanes diminishes (the season officially ends November 30). If you crave a beach but don't want to take any chances, choose a getaway in the southern Caribbean. These islands typically are out of harm's way:

Head for the Hills

At the start of November, many ski resorts are already open for the season. Even if you have no desire to schuss down a mountain in the cold, the apres-ski scene couldn't be more romantic.

Choose a ski destination where there are lots of things to do, from dog-sledding to ice skating to rides through the snowy countryside in a horsedrawn carriage, and you'll have an invigorating anniversary.

Go "Inn" Style

Who says you have to go outdoors at all in November. Why not cuddle up in a romantic inn? Those that belong to the Relais & Chateaux group adhere to the highest standards of hospitality. Each of the properties -- which are located all over the world -- is unique and charming in its own way. They are not inexpensive. In addition to top-notch service and beautiful decor, guests can expect meals that are exceptional in both taste and presentation. It's no wonder that many couples choose a Relais & Chateaux to celebrate a honeymoon, birthday, anniversary, or other special occasions.
