St. Louis has some great live music venues. Blueberry Hill and the Pageant attract big crowds and nationally-known artists to the Delmar Loop. And don't forget the smaller clubs and hot spots all around town. For a different kind of evening out, you can also take in free concerts from popular local artists at a location you might not expect: the Central Library in downtown St. Louis.
When and Where
The Not So Quiet!
Concert Series is a free monthly performance at the Central Library Auditorium. The concerts are held the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. They feature local musicians playing a variety of styles including folk, rock, jazz and blues.
The Central Library is located at 1301 Olive Street in downtown St. Louis. There is street parking all around the building, or you can park for free at the garage at Olive and 15th Street. Just ask a librarian for a parking token to exit the garage.
Schedule of Concerts
The Not So Quiet! Concert Series is held year round. Here is the current schedule of artists:
May 21, 2015 - Silver Bullet STL Unplugged
June 18, 2015- The Ralph Butler Band
July 16, 2015 - American Idiot - A Tribute to Green Day
August 20, 2015 - Jake's Leg
Before the concert, you can grab a quick meal right in the library at Urban Eats. The casual cafe is located near the library's Locust Street entrance.
The cafe is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., offering a quick menu of sandwiches, salads and baked goods. Other good options for downtown dining include The Dubliner, Schlafly Tap Room or Charlie Gitto's. For more on these eateries, see Top Restaurants in Downtown St. Louis.
More at the Central Library
Free events are a good incentive, but they aren't the only reason to visit the Central Library.
The century-old building is new again after a two-year, multi-million dollar renovation. The library has three floors of public space, including the Great Hall on the second floor with its artistic ceiling and massive chandeliers. There is also a wonderful Children's Library on the first floor with stacks of books, games, legos and kid friendly computers.
The library is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The first floor only is open Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. You can also take a free tour of the building on Monday and Saturday afternoons.
