Northport at a Glance:

Northport is a North Shore waterfront village, and part of the Town of Huntington in Suffolk County. The bayside Northport Harbor borders the village to the west, and Long Island Sound lies to the north. Long-gone trolleys once ran through Northport, and Main Street still has the remaining trolley tracks to prove it.

With the atmosphere of a quiet village, Northport’s Main Street is filled with cozy cafés, restaurants and boutiques.

During winter holiday time, the trees lining the streets sparkle with bright lights, and in summer, water sports and festivals attract many visitors to the town.

Northport Transportation:

Trains from the Long Island Rail Road's Northport Station take about an hour to arrive in New York City's Penn Station. Route 25A and Jericho Turnpike are south of the town.

Northport History:

The Matinecock Indians originally lived in this land by a sheltered harbor. In 1656, their chief sold the land to three Englishmen. It became known as Great Cow Harbor because of the cattle grazing there. It later became a shipbuilding community. In 1837, the area became known as the Village of Northport.
