Winter is officially over and the dog days of Jersey summer are right around the corner. There’s no better time to enjoy a cool, refreshing treat to balance out that humidity we all know so well. Whether you’re seeking sustenance after a jog through one of North Jersey’s famous reservations, or simply wanting to cool down while basking in the sun at the park, your body will thank you after downing a perfect elixir from one of these smoothie or juice bars.

Manhattan Juice Bar & Cafe

Located in Montclair, Manhattan Juice Bar boasts the “best cup of coffee in town,” raw juices, healthy snacks, and vegan/gluten-free smoothies. The aptly-named establishment features New York-themed concoctions like the "Statue of Liberty" (avocado, honey,  almond milk, protein powder) and the "Penn Station" (bananas, peanut butter, almond milk, chocolate protein powder). If those delicious-sounding drinks aren't enough to pique your interest, consider an "add-on"—for  $1.99, the "green vibrance", chock-full of probiotics and vitamins, will invigorate you. Other add-ons include raw vegan protein or royal maca root. Hungry? Try the build-your-own Quinoa Sautee Station. Bonus: Free WiFi. 212 Glenridge Ave., Montclair; (973) 744-4100 —RG

Dancing Blender Smoothie Company

Recently featured on ABC’s What Would You Do?, The Dancing Blender's inviting atmosphere, complete with inspirational quotes lining the walls, free WiFi, and board games, makes it a popular hangout for solo smoothie lovers and groups alike—especially Seton Hall University students.

The menu offers custom-made salads, wraps, juices and a whopping 17 smoothie flavors (most of which are trademarked with witty and adorable names—Dimples™ and Shady Tree™—for example) with the additional option to create-your-own. 121 South Orange Ave., South Orange; (973) 821-5707 —RG

Green Point Juicery

Unlimited samples, raw and 100% organic ingredients, no HPP, no GMOs, local honey sourced from a farm in Cedar Grove?

They had us at unlimited samples! Green Point Juicery in Verona is the perfect place to "turn over your new, healthier leaf". The Juicery’s employees are passionate and knowledgeable if you are looking to embrace the juicing lifestyle. If that’s not quite your jam, but are just in need of a tasty companion for your stroll in nearby Verona Park (just across the street), pop in! We love the C-Trio—the shop's sugarless lemonade. 532 Bloomfield Ave., Verona; (973) 500-3044 —RG

Bohemian Raspberry

Like its namesake and popular Queen song, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, Bohemian Raspberry epitomizes the definition of "rhapsody"—"an effusively enthusiastic or ecstatic expression of feeling"—taste and selection in this case! The shop serves 17 flavors of frozen yogurt, ice cream and sorbet, with a gargantuan wall of 75+ toppings. An artisanal coffee, espresso, and fresh smoothie and juice bar greets customers in the front of the store. Where else could you nosh on a Balthazar Bakery croissant, sip a double espresso, slather your fro-yo with any toppings you could dream of, and take a wheatgrass shot all in one sitting if you so desired? Bonus: students and teachers can enjoy an additional 10% off their purchases with a valid ID.

Groov Café & Juice Bar

Formerly Asana, Groov Café & Juice Bar has reemerged revitalized and better than ever! Order up a classic smoothie (almond milk and banana base, which helps to regulate blood pressure, plus your fruit of choice) or one of the 8 super smoothie options. Our favorite is The Guiltless Pleasure (peanut butter, almond milk, banana, raw cacao, honey, macca). Additionally, the café boasts 12+ fresh juice combinations and the “perfect food for dieters, athletes, yogis or anyone who wants to stay healthy and feel great”, including omelets, wraps, pho and ramen, salads, empanadas, and even arepas (Groov's version is a corn meal pocket stuffed with cheese, spinach, and eggs). 127 Valley Road, Montclair; (973) 744-1500 —RG

Tropical Juice Bar

Speaking of juice bars that serve world-class empanadas, with three locations in North Jersey, Tropical Juice Bar is a force to be reckoned with.

The no-frills but authentic TJB serves up Latin American specialties like guanabana and chinola (passion fruit) smoothies, Morir soñando (orange juice and milk), mofongo (crushed plantain with pork skin and garlic), patacon, chimis, tostones, and much, much more. 160 W. Broadway, Paterson, (973) 427-8700; 198 Myrtle Ave, Passaic, (973) 928-3800; 144 Passaic Ave, Passaic, (862) 247-8300 —RG

Dean’s Natural Food Market

Sure, Whole Foods might have a pretty good smoothie selection in their café area, but sometimes you're craving something a little less "big-box" with a little more tender loving care. Dean’s Natural Food Market is your one-stop shop for organic produce, vitamins supplements, and all of your health and beauty needs, but most notably boasts a smoothie and juice bar with an extensive menu to suit any customer's taste. Each month Dean’s features juice specials: April’s include "The Bunny Buzz" (fresh carrot juice, banana, strawberry, bee pollen, flax oil and vanilla plant protein and ice) and "The Good Seed" (banana, sunflower seed butter, hemp seeds, chia seeds, hemp protein and coconut water). Consult the shop's event calendar for free cooking and health-awareness classes. Bonus: a Chester location is coming soon, making it New Jersey's fourth location (Shrewsbury and Ocean Township are the others)! 25 Mountainview Blvd., Basking Ridge; (908) 495-1600 —RG

Nature's House

This blink-and-you'll-miss-it Jersey City staple is an affordable option for the everyday health-conscious folk, with most freshly-pressed juices and smoothies costing between $5-6 for a large. The "digestive" juice (beets, apple, carrots, lemon, and ginger) is your best bet if you're not a fan of the overly-sweet. The juicery doubles as a health store, complete with a stock of all of the health foods, protein powders, supplements, and vitamins you could need or want. Bonus: the owners—a couple—are extremely knowledgeable, so fire away your questions! 159 Newark Ave., Jersey City; (201) 332-7555 —Danielle Berman

ReJuice A Nation

Major bonus points for delivery and order-ahead, ReJuice A Nation! In addition to Hale and Hearty soups, create-your-own salads, and sandwiches, this popular Hoboken spot serves up the most creatively named and concocted smoothies and juices we've encountered in the area. About to trek on a long jog along the Hudson? Grab The Olympian Power Smoothie (raspberry juice, banana, strawberries, orange sherbet, energy boost and protein boost, multivitamin boost) to push you through. For a nominal fee, throw in fun and healthful, albeit brow-raising add-ons, like the "Fat Stripper".  64 Newark St., Hoboken; (201) 268-7918 —DB

SuperJuice Nation

Not only does SuperJuice Nation offer customers uber-healthy, raw, organic juices, the shop has gone and made up a word: Smoovee™—a "Smoothie That Moves Thee". Oftentimes a smoothie can be seen as liquid sugar, loaded with calories, but a Smoovee™ can actually act as a meal replacement, filled with nourishment. Bonus: all of their products, including Chakra Juices, SuperMylk, and StraightCoffee (cold brew), can now be purchased online. 46 Chestnut St., Ridgewood; (201) 857-0458 —DB

The Corner

We get the feeling big things are in store for The Corner, an ever-crowded bistro in Montclair that opened in April 2015. With an open-kitchen dining room where waiters in matching striped shirts buzz about, you're seemingly transported to Brooklyn, reinforced by the famous New York coffee favorite, La Colombe Torrefaction, on the menu. Local athletes can be spotted standing at the bar downing fresh-pressed juices like the "Bounce Back" (grapefruit, grapes, lemon, orange, beet). And yes, we might have spent this entire article convincing you to buy said healthy juices, but really, you can't leave without trying the 230 cookie—a chocolate chip cookie made fresh daily at 2:30pm and sells, appropriately, for $2.30. 115 Grove St. (corner of Walnut Street), Montclair; (973) 783-2400 —DB
