NIZUC resembles a vast, beautiful, 21st-century Mayan temple It was designed by Mexican architect Alejandro Escudero in monumental, large-scale style, with swaths of stone and Caribbean vistas everywhere. Mayan design notes give NIZUC a tranquil feeling and powerful setting. NIZUC is service-oriented. On the whole, staffers are very warm and connected, providing warm, efficient, and discreet service. Guests have assigned butlers. They bring comforts like ice to your room; they draw your bath; they make your dinner and spa reservations and escort you there; they handle laundry and packing. Yet many NIZUC staffers, not just your butler, know who you are. It's nice to walk into your dinner restaurant and be welcomed by name.
Suite and villa buildings have concierges who handle your golf-cart rides (though nothing at the resort is more than a 15-minute walk from your room. Delicious Global Dining and Drinking at NIZUC
A World of Flavors at NIZUC
Dining is one of the glories of NIZUC, with six beautifully designed dining venues and several bars on-property. French-raised and trained executive chef Syvain Desbois oversees the resort's irresistible array of restaurants. Guests can choose a la carte dining or for a three-meals-daily semi-inclusive plan, which can include liquor, minibar, room service, etc.
Ramona is the resort’s elegant, fine-dining restaurant. The décor marries traditional hacienda elements with modern lines. Chef Eduardo Torres is brilliant at updating classic Yucatecan recipes such as suckling pig and local shrimp on a bed of stewed banana. Ramona's sommeliers are passionate about wine. One of Ramona's best wine labels is Santo Tomas, grown in Baja California by NIZUC's owner. (Ramona is showcased in TripSavvy's pick of
Cancun's best restaurants.)
NI is an authentic Peruvian restaurant. It is airy and sunny, with an indoor-outdoor feeling
Chef Erick Ramos is the real thing, from Lima, Peru. He is also extensively trained in French and Spanish cuisines, bringing a worldly touch to his creations. Chef Erick's Peruvian ceviches, tiraditos (sashimi), and fried seafood (jalea) are flawlessly prepared and delicious. NI serves lunch and early dinnertime.
Terra Nostra is NIZUC's Italian and Mediterranean restaurant with the feeling of a sophisticated seaside trattoria near the sea. Its chef, Daniele Tonin, was born near Venice, so naturally, he creates memorable seafood dishes. Many Terra Nostra patrons come to dine on Chef Daniele's house-made pasta and pizzas from the wood-fired oven. Terra Nostra's weekend brunch is not to be missed. If your flight home is Sunday afternoon, this is an inspired place to spend your last couple of hours at NIZUC.
Indochine is NIZUC's seductive Asian restaurant. This sexy restaurant's elegantly modern "Chinoiserie" decor and candlelight illumination make diners feel young and alluring. Chef Alicia Patankar, from Guanajuato near Mexico City, has a brilliant way with Asian food. She cooks Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Malaysian and more with flavor and flair. Her menu is exceptionally strong on favorite dishes like fried rice, satays, and sushi
La Punta Grill is Nizuc’s super-suave beachfront restaurant, set overlooking the resort's Caribbean lagoon and Nizuc's adult lap pool. La Punta's mood: tropical languor, with a happy soundtrack and a buzzy, convivial bar. Mexico City-raised chef Antonio Ramírez's food: tempting salads, juicy grilled steaks, and sensational fresh seafood (fish tacos, ceviches, perfectly grilled shrimp and succulent Caribbean lobsters).
Cafe de la Playa serves NIZUC's unforgettably great breakfasts under the perfectionistic eye of Chef Roberto de la Cruz. Diners can opt for a deluxe buffet or waiter service (or both). Pastry chef Nicolás Oviedo's breads and pastries are the best I've had in Mexico. Right before your eyes, a Mexican lady cook in Yucatecan garb custom-makes quick local breakfast bites for you, including like migas, sopes, chalupas, and huaraches. Just point, watch, and enjoy.
NIZUC Bars and Lounges
Bar A'Kan is much more and a lobby bar. It is a gloriously designed, double-height, indoor-outdoor waterfront pavilion with a vast selection of specialty cocktails, tequila, and mezcal. Havana Lounge focuses on rum, Scotch, and cigars (Mexican, Dominican, and Cuban). It hosts the resort's late-night scene, with an elegant party atmosphere and Cuban musicians. Some guests stay into the wee hours, puffing Havanas and tasting rums.
Special Dining Experiences at NIZUC
Guests can savor a Chef's Table evening, which begins in the resort's potager, or French kitchen garden. The resort's Santo Tomas Wine Cellar also hosts private dinners. Other custom meals: romantic dinner for two on NIZUC's handsome pier; intimate wine and cheese tastings; and the Sushi 'n' Tequila Experience where you make your own sushi (the tequila helps). Room service is round-the-clock at NIZUC.
NIZUC SPA BY ESPA
NIZUC SPA BY ESPA
NIZUC SPA by ESPA, the resort's 30,000-square-foot wellness sanctuary, is the only ESPA-branded spa in Caribbean Mexico. ESPA, a super-high-end spa brand founded in the UK, is seen at the highest level of resorts, such as Phulay Bay Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Thailand. The brand is renowned for its exquisite modern design, fantastically fragrant botanical balms, and superlative-quality complexion products.
Full-service offerings at NIZUC SPA by ESPA range from expert massages to deft European facials to rejuvenating body treatments. Local ingredients are utilized, such as sea salt, agave, xocolatl (chocolate). Treatments are highly customized; clients can sniff and choose from ESPA's potions.
Nine treatment rooms all have showers en-suite. Two Couples' Suites are like private villas, with lounge rooms and vast tubs for post-massage. The spa's beauty salon attends to hair, makeup, manicures and pedicures, and men's grooming.
NIZUC SPA BY ESPA is a haven for the soul, with a hydrotherapy circuit that feels like an extended water-jet massage. The hydrotherapy baths, pools, and jets are available as a treatment on its own--from a vitality pool with water-massage "experience jets" to fountain beds to sauna, steam, ice room; and outdoor float pool.
