It might not be Times Square, but Long Island, New York doesn't lack when it comes to New Year's Eve fun.
We're ringing in the '20s, so you can be sure to expect plenty of Gatsby-themed parties—complete with gin-based cocktails and live jazz. If you prefer hip hop to jazz, no worries: There's something for everyone from one end of the island to the other. Whether you're looking to indulge in an elegant feast or groove to '70s music at a disco-themed party, you can commemorate the start of the new decade in style.
Just remember to reserve early because these venues do sell out fast.
The Mansion at Glen Cove
Ring in 2020 on the elegant North Shore with a lavish night of drinks and dancing. The party is a Gatsby-themed black-tie gala, so don your tuxedo or flapper dress and rock in the new year—(19)'20s style. This centennial event at the 55-acre estate features a cocktail hour, four-course dinner, live DJ, and a continental breakfast station at the end of the night. Joe Gannascoli from "The Sopranos" will also be making a special appearance.
The Royal Palm
This Long Island banquet hall might just be the best place to celebrate the start of the new year. The facility has been throwing bashes since the 1960s, and this year, they're putting out all the stops: an open bar from 9 to 2 a.m., casino tables, a buffet dinner, a dessert bar, and a champagne toast at midnight. For entertainment, you can expect a DJ spinning tunes and smooth saxophone music.
Formerly known as The Venetian Yacht Club, The Piermont is an event space with a stunning view of the Great South Bay. At 8 p.m. on December 31, the location will undergo a time warp and turn into a disco-themed party. Revelers can get their groove on to That 70's Band while enjoying a cocktail hour, three-course dinner, top-shelf open bar, and complimentary party favors. A ball drop at midnight won't stop the party, which continues until 1:30 a.m.
Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa
This oceanfront resort is a historic venue that opened in 1926 and has been holding themed New Year's Eve bashes for over 50 years. Starting at 8 p.m., the hotel will take party-goers straight back to the Roaring 20's with a fête inspired by "The Great Gatsby." You can enjoy a live jazz band and DJ, an open bar serving up Prohibition-era cocktails (French 75s included), a raw bar, and hors d'oeuvres. NYE doesn't get any more extravagant than this.
Hotel Indigo East End
Located on Long Island’s east end, The Hotel Indigo is home to the award-winning eatery Bistro 72. On New Year's Eve, the restaurant has two seating times for a gourmet dinner event you won't forget. Early birds can enjoy live piano music over a three-course dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m., while the later reservation from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. comes with a five-course meal and a live set of funk jazz by musician Matt Marshak.
Both menus feature numerous options to choose from, including an herb and garlic-encrusted lamb rack, clams and prosciutto served in a champagne-creamed white sauce, and banana brûlée. Those who opt for the five-course meal will get to indulge in both soup and salad courses, as well as fried calamari or lobster martini.
Mirabelle at Three Village Inn
The Three Village Inn overlooking Stony Brook Harbor offers two ways to celebrate the New Year. The Mirabelle Restaurant & Tavern serves an elaborate three-course dinner featuring eclectic fares, such as warm goat cheese salad, foie gras, poached halibut, roasted beef fillet, and chocolate-caramel cake. The restaurant also offers a New Year's Day champagne brunch with unlimited champagne and mimosas. Come during 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and you will find two roasts carved to order, smoked salmon, shrimp in the rough, a chef's dessert table, and a children's buffet.
