Stop by First Nights and Family-Friendly Events

Enjoy a number of end-of-year festivals and parties throughout the Capital Region. The popular "First Night" event is celebrated in cities across the U.S., and brings the community together to toast to the previous year on December 31. Separate First Night events will take place in cities across Northern Virginia including Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Vienna, Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, Harrisonburg, Waynesboro, Warrenton, Winchester, and Williamsburg.

Events typically take place starting at around 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve, but there are a few two-day events across the region so check the full schedule for your individual city to get the details. Many of these family-oriented celebrations even include an early evening "countdown to midnight," so young kids who can't stay up until 12 a.m. can still feel the excitement of the new year arriving—even if it is a few hours too early.
