The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes, founded in 1966, is a peaceful green space nestled among the gracious houses of Shaker Heights, just each of Cleveland. The facility features a variety of trails that illustrate six natural habitats, as well as a nature center with exhibits about the Northeast Ohio landscape. Best of all, admission is free.
The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes has a variety of trails that illustrate six natural habitats: lake, stream, marsh, field, ravine, and forest.
Among the trails is the All Peoples Trail, a 1/3 mile barrier-free boardwalk that extends over the marshland. The APT is accessible via a ramp. Another highlight is the Stearns Trail, a half-mile trail that snakes around the center's wildflower garden.
The Visitors Center:
The newly expanded Nature Center features 11,000-square feet of space. The Center features exhibits about Northeast Ohio plants and animals as well as a gift shop, classroom space, a library, and a meeting room. Just off the building is an observation deck.
The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes hosts a full schedule of special events. Among these are nature walks, a photography club, and brown bag lunches. The Nature Center also offers a summer camp series for kids.
The trails at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes are open daily from dawn until dusk. The Nature Center is open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm and on Sunday from 1pm to 5pm.
Admission is free.
