National Park Week 2017 in Washington DC

Explore Washington DC's Best Parks During National Park Week

Dates: April 15-23, 2017

National Park Week is an annual week for celebration and recognition of America's National Parks. First proclaimed in 1991 by President George H.W. Bush to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the National Park Service, this week is a time to renew our passion and commitment to the resources we protect. National Parks provide recreational experiences, opportunities to learn and grow, and places of quiet refuge.

Many of Washington DC's most popular tourist attractions are located on the National Mall, which is a part of the National Park system.

During National Park Week, admission is free to all National Parks and a variety of activities and programs are scheduled to encourage visitors to explore the diverse wildlife, iconic landscapes, vibrant culture, and rich history found in America’s national parks. About 200 parks commemorate Junior Ranger Day with fun-filled activities and special events. Almost every National Park has a Junior Ranger program -- a program to connect children and families with the natural and cultural history found in National Parks. Junior Rangers demonstrate that they have what it takes to preserve and understand the importance of our national treasures.
