Taps at the U.S. Capitol
The National Memorial Day concert in Washington DC features a mix of dramatic readings, documentary footage and live musical performances, along with an all-star line-up of dignitaries, actors and musical artists. The FREE annual event is held on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol Building and kicks off the summer season in the nation's capital. The concert airs live on PBS from 8-9:30 p.m. and is repeated from 9:30-11 p.m.
Concert Date and Time: Sunday, May 28, 2017, 8 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m.
Location: West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, First St. NW, Washington, DC. Access to the concert is located at the southwest corner of the Capitol grounds. The best way to get to the Capitol is to take the Metro. The closest stations include Capitol South, Federal Center SW and Union Station. See a map
The Memorial Day Concert will feature:
- a tribute to the last surviving member of the Doolittle Raiders, who flew the daring bombing mission that launched the U.S. invasion of Japan after Pearl Harbor
- the... story of the sacrifices made by Captain Luis Avila and his wife, Claudia, as they courageously face life-changing injuries incurred from an IED bomb blast
- the healing journey of a Gold Star family from the Vietnam era who reach out to support grieving families from recent conflicts
- Military groups include the U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters, The U.S. Air Force Singing Sergeants, the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets, the U.S. Army Chorus and the Soldier's Chorus of the U.S. Army Field Band.

Jack Everly - National Symphony Orchestra Conductor
Top pops conductor Jack Everly will conduct the National Symphony Orchestra for the 2017 National Memorial Day Concert. Everly serves as Principal Pops Conductor of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Naples Philharmonic Orchestra and National Arts Centre Orchestra as well as Music Director for the Symphonic Pops Consortium. National Symphony Orchestra
The National Symphony Orchestra performs before a crowd of thousands at the National Memorial Day Concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC.
