The largest and most visited show devoted to spicy foods and barbeque happens every March in Albuquerque, at the Sandia Resort and Casino. You'll find over 200 booths filled with products that will spice up your kitchen shelf and learn tips from the many pros who come to the show every year.
It makes sense that the National Fiery Foods Show takes place in Albuquerque. The city loves chile and considers mid-August through late September chile season. You'll find chile roasters on corners, at farmers markets and grocery stores throughout the city and state. We take our green chile seriously.
Vendors and Demonstrations
But the Fiery Foods show includes all kinds of chile peppers, from the tiny red ones to the orange habanero and everything in between. At the show, vendors have chile in many forms, such as dried powders, hot sauces and more. There are cooking demonstrations, chile cooking equipment, cookbooks and magazines and every kind of chile condiment you can imagine.
Barbecue is a staple of the show as well. BBQ sauces that are hot and spicy, sweet and tart, and all their uses are demonstrated by vendors. BBQ champs are at the show, talking about how they make their products and how they use them.
The most exciting thing you'll find at the show, though, is the food. If you like spicy foods, you'll find sauces, marinades, salsas, mustards, hot sauces, and more to choose from. Many vendors allow visitors to taste samples before purchasing. Just be careful when choosing some of the hotter varieties of anything. If a vendor says a product is hot, take their word for it. You may just taste a salsa so hot you'll go running for the nearest water fountain or a booth that has an antidote to pepper pain. Yes, there is one!
The 2018 show will be the 30th year the nation's chile heads converge to celebrate the capsicum pod and its many variations.
Every year there are star chefs on hand and demonstrations on topics such as grilling and smoking.
The annual Scovie Awards competition awards prizes in a variety of categories, to include specialty chile bbq sauce, cheese, condiments, hot sauce, meat, sweet heat, candy, jams, snacks and more.
