When spring comes to the desert, it’s warm enough for outdoor movies. In Las Vegas, some of the free family-friendly showings are held in neighborhood parks and in outdoor shopping centers—there’s even a hotel on the Las Vegas Strip with “dive-in movies” where locals can pay $7 and relax in the pool to catch their favorite flick. Once it really gets hot out and kids on vacation from school are looking for things to do, many local theaters offer a low-cost summer movies series indoors where it's cool and comfortable.
Some of the venues that offer spring and summer outdoor movie events include:
Centennial Hills Park: One of the first movie series on the summer social docket is the city-sponsored movie series at Centennial Hills Park. These free family movies and concerts light up the screen and bring music to the night on Fridays and Saturdays throughout March and April. Movies start at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. depending on when the sun sets. For more information see the Ward 6 events website.
Town Square Las Vegas: This shopping area hosts Movies on the Green on selected Thursdays in June and July. You’ll find family-friendly movies shown on their 25-foot by 35-foot screen. Admission is free (no outside food and beverages, please). Before the movie, which starts at sundown, there are entertainers and children’s activities.
The District at Green Valley Ranch: In May through late June, The District Shopping area offers free movie nights on their green in the back of Whole Foods. Bring a blanket and find your place beginning at 7:30 p.m.—movies start at sundown.
City of North Las Vegas Parks Events: The City of North Las Vegas offers a wide array of free events at parks throughout the city and they host Movie Madness all summer long.
Westwind Drive in Theater: In North Las Vegas you can have an old-fashioned drive-in movie experience at the all-digital Westwind. General admission is $7.75, kids 5–11 are charged $1.75, and those four and under are always free. On Tuesday Family Fun Nights the general admission price is reduced to $5.50. The atmosphere at West Wind is reminiscent of the old-school drive-in vibe. While you wait for the movie, toss a Frisbee or football around or watch your kids on the playground. There’s a fully-stocked snack bar with old standbys including hot dogs and popcorn.
The Cosmopolitan’s Dive-In Movies: Head downtown for Dive-In Movies at the Cosmopolitan’s Boulevard Pool. On Monday evenings from May 13 to Labor Day, the Hotel Marquee at their Boulevard Pool transforms into a colossal movie screen, showing your favorite films high above the Las Vegas Strip. Laze in the water or lounge poolside as you sip on movie-themed cocktails and enjoy theater snacks. The price of admission is $7 for non-hotel guests but there's free entry for hotel guests and all children under 5 years of age.
