Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade Named "One of the Top 20 Events in the Southeast," the Durham MLK Parade provides a wholesome, family-oriented, multi-cultural event. Features floats, marching bands, steppers, horses, motorcycles, school groups and more.

Dreamfest 20011 The Town of Cary's Dreamfest 2011 includes a community expo, a service project at Hemlock Bluff Nature Preserve and a Dream of Democracy March. Check the site for a full schedule of events. Cary.
MLK Community Day of Service On the annual MLK Holiday, in conjunction with the Triangle United Way, this project will involve thousands of volunteers to go into various communities to provide hand's on service to residents. The goal is to ignite the spirit of community by providing a quality experience for volunteers of all ages and the opportunity to create lasting results across the Triangle region. Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Morrisville.
He Was a Poem, He Was a Song This annual program will explore Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy through music, poetry and spoken word. The program will feature a poetry performance by Kane Smego of the Sacrificial Poets and jazz performances by Ron Baxter and Ensemble and Joy Harrell accompanied by Marsa Whitesell.

30th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Lecture Soledad O’Brien headlines this annual lecture in honor of MLK. Ticket required. 7:30 p.m. Memorial Hall. Chapel Hill.
