Water slides and other fun

Unfortunately, there are no major amusement parks or theme parks in Mississippi. The last park, the small Biloxi Beach Amusement Park closed in 2006, after hurricane damage. There aren't many water parks in the state either. If you are looking for roller coasters and other traditional amusement park fun, you'll have to travel elsewhere.

There are a couple of family entertainment centers that offer some fun things to do as well as a few water parks. The following Mississippi parks and attractions are listed in alphabetical order.

Big Play Family Fun Center in Biloxi

The family entertainment center includes a variety of activities. Its outdoor adventure park is open in warmer weather and includes attractions such as inflatable water slides. Other activities include bumper cars, mini-golf, bungee jumpers, mining, a restaurant, and an indoor arcade.

Geyser Falls in Choctaw

Geyser Falls, a unique outdoor water park, is part of the Pearl River Resort. It offers nice theming and a full-service restaurant with live entertainment. It has an assortment of attractions including a half-pipe ride, a wave pool, a lazy river, activities for small children, an interactive water play complex with a tipping bucket, and a trio of speed slides built into the natural terrain of a 60-foot hill.

Private cabanas are available for rental. For visitors seeking overnight accommodations, there are hotels nearby. The Pearl River Resort offers a casino with slots and table games, entertainment, dining, golf, and a hotel.

Grand Paradise is a medium-sized outdoor water park that includes the FreeFall speed slide, the WipeOut bowl ride, the Grand Falls Racer mat-racing attraction, and the Tropical Splash and Blue Typhoon tube slides. Perhaps its most thrilling attraction is the AquaTwist, which is advertised as a “looping slide,” but actually twists sideways instead of a true vertical loop.

Less thrilling features include the Paradise Lazy River and the Grand Paradise Pool, which offers a place to stay cool and has smaller slides and activities. For smaller children, the park offers Waddleland, a water play area with splash pads, fountains, and other features. The Water Fort is an interactive water play structure with sprayers, water curtains, and a large tipping bucket.

Gulf Islands Waterpark in Gulfport

The outdoor water park offers a good collection of attractions including two uphill water coasters, tube slides, body slides, a wave pool, and a mat-racing slide in which participants can compete against each other. There is also an interactive water play structure and a lazy river. Included are areas and activities for younger children.

The small rooftop waterpark is only available to guests staying at the Margaritaville Resort. Attractions include a lazy river, water slides, a pool, a splash pad, and a water ropes course. There is also an agility walk across the water; instead of “lily pads,“ there are giant flip flops.

Margaritaville also offers Escape, a 55,000-square-foot family entertainment center that includes a climbing wall, a MaxFlight motion simulator experience, a ropes course, a virtual reality arena, bowling, and arcade games. The center also has food stands and the Sweet Shack ice cream parlor.
