Mission Hill is one of the most successful and visually grand wineries in Canada and certainly holds its own when compared to any winery in the world.
Located in the Okanagan Valley, which is the oldest and most productive of the BC wine regions, Mission Hill is about a 20-min drive from downtown Kelowna and welcomes tourists year round, though the winery operates on a more limited schedule in winter. The beautiful grounds of Mission Hill are set high above Okanagan Lake and feature Mission-style architecture, including a 12-storey-high bell tower, an award-winning restaurant, and outdoor amphitheater, and of course a variety of wines available for tasting and purchase at the Mission Hill shop.
It was in 1992 that Mission Hill brought brought global recognition to the Okanagan Valley by winning world's best Chardonnay at London's International Wine & Spirit Competition. Things have been rosy ever since, and additional awards have included Best Icewine in the World at the 2008 International Wine Challenge and inclusion on the list of the Top Five Winery Restaurants in the World by Travel & Leisure Magazine.
Aside from Chardonnay and Icewine, Mission Hill produces fine whites, such as Pinot Blanc, Riesling and Gewürtztraminer, as well as Pinot Noir and even some bolder reds like Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Terrace Restaurant at Mission Hill Winery
The setting of Terrace Restaurant is so scrumptious that you'll have to make a conscious effort to tear your eyes away from the blue waters and sloping vineyards to note how artistic and delicious your food is.
Perched on the shores of Lake Okanagan in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley, Terrace Restaurant is part of Mission Hill Winery, one of the biggest wine producers in Canada. This unique restaurant is set within an outdoor colonnade that complements the Mission-style architecture of the Mission Hill estate. Staff are armed with blankets for chilly evenings. Terrace Restaurant features a menu of local foods that are of course paired with Mission Hill wines.
The spectacular setting combined with Terrace's creative, seasonal country fare menu have put the restaurant on the list of the Top Five Winery Restaurants in the World according to Travel & Leisure Magazine.
