We spoke with Ana Gon, VP of Sales and Marketing for Posadas, about the brand.
Q: The hotel landscape in Mexico is quite competitive. What separates Posadas from other brands?
A: We are a 100 percent Mexican brand and management company. We've earned a great reputation by operating for many years in traditional markets. We’re a management company for seven brands.We serve domestic customers traveling for business, as well as an international clientele.
Something that distinguishes us is that we aren’t cookie cutter. Lots of brands offer exactly the same experience. You’ll see the same buildings from one destination for another. They want to standardize the guest experience. And there might be guests who want that.
In our case, we want different experiences depending on the customer profile. We have young people, families and other markets.
We have twelve different concepts and resorts under one umbrella.
The mission of the company has always been to turn our hotel rooms into a second home for our guests.
As a Mexican company, we want to make sure that when you get to our resorts, you experience a true Mexican flavor. We've been turning some brands into all inclusives.
Our goal is to really expose people to Mexican hospitality.
Q: The Grand Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta opened last year, and has already earned impressive accolades, such as the AAA Four Diamond award. What factors have led to its success?
A: For Puerto Vallarta, it’s an adults only property. But it’s not so much about romance. We’re not only for couples. It’s for adults who want to get away, parents away from kids. Baby boomers and bachelor parties. The location is very secluded, with a very private beach. It's right on the mountains, all suites, all ocean front.
The all inclusive adults only concept is perfect for a large segment of travelers. And of course, you have the beautiful setting on the Pacific Ocean, and the service is second to none.
Q: How far is the hotel from the heart of Puerto Vallarta, as wll as the airport?
A: The hotel is five minutes away from Puerto Vallarta’s historical center. Guests can enjoy the charms of an authentic Mexican town. Shops, restaurants and art galleries are close by. And the best thing is that we're only 20 minutes away from the airport. .
Q: What types of accommodations does the hotel feature?
The hotel has 443 amazing suites. They include Grand Club, Junior Suite Double, Junior Suite Handicap, Master Suite, Governor Suite and Presidential Suite.
Q: What about culinary options at the property. The stakes are so high these days, with brands trying to raise the bar as much as possible.
A: You're right about that. The evolution of the all inclusive product is taking place all over the country. Now as we all know, the market is looking for more of a gourmet experience. They want something different from the usual fare.
Traditionally, the perception of all inclusives is of long lines at buffets.
Our restaurants are a la carte. Only two of them them take reservations. We have very long hours of operation. We start at 5:30 in the morning and close at 10 pm.
What we offer are seven restaurants offering an array of national and international dishes. We also offer 24-hour room service. We want to make sure you have all kinds of gourmet experiences.
So we've provided great gastronomy and international flavors. We will be working with a signature celebrity chef.
Here's another important factor. We don’t have any limitations or restrictions, such as what you see at other properties. You’re not limited to experiencing some venues only once during your stay. You can go as many times as you want to.
In addition to our seven restaurants, we also have nine lounges, beginning with the lobby bar. Our guests can go around to the Martini Bar, Sky Bar, Tequilla Bar, Mojito Bar, to name a few.
We also offer outdoor entertainment all day long.
Q: Tell us about other amenities at the property.
A: Our Spa features everything you can ask for, whether you're enjoying a visit alone or as a couple. It has a Jacuzzi, sauna, hydrotherapy pools, steam and massage room. We also offer a Fitness Center with high-technology equipment and a swimming pool beside the sea.
Q: The hotel also features meeting and convention space to attract the MICE segment, right?
A: From the fifth floor we have a convention center with almost 20,000 square feet with a capacity of 1,300. Of course, you will find the latest technology and equipment to facilitate congresses, meetings, conventions, social events and banquets.
The conventiion space is on the other side of the mountain. If a convention is going on it will be very separate from the rest of the hotel.
The hotel been accepted into the portfolio of Associated Luxury Hotels International (ALHI). The ALHI Global Sales Organization provides local access to the North American meetings & incentive marketplace to over 250 luxury-level hotels and resorts around the world. ALHI's portfolio features more than 100 international hotel and resort options in 44 countries,
Grand Fiesta Americana is the first property in Puerto Vallarta to recieve the honor, and ALHI's sixth luxury resort in Mexico. Other members of the association include sister properties Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancun, Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos and Live Aqua Cancun.
Grand Fiesta Americana has also joined ALHI's "Beach & Island Collection" and "Passport Collection" luxury brand segments for meeting and incentive programs.
Q: You also have another long-standing property in the Puerto Vallarta area. Tell us about it, and your other locations.
A: We have 12 resorts in the Fiesta Americana Resorts Collection. The 290-room Fiesta Americana in Puerto Vallarta. has been in the market for four decades. It’s been totally renovated, transfored into an all inclusive and reopened in 2014 as Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta All-Inclusive & Spa. Guests of the property can now enjoy a world-class eco spa.
Spa Na’Ha’ features thatched-roof palaces, one decked out with a private Jacuzzi. Treatments include a Choco Wrap, incorporating local cacao. It begins with an application of white chocolate mixed with peppermint and coconut granules, and is followed by a chocolate mask.
Additionally, the property's three restaurants have been joined by five additional venues. New room categories are also more family friendly.
In Los Cabos, we have the Grand Fiesta Americana. It's a fabulous golf and spa resort with a beachfront location. It's, very family friendly and located in the corridor. We also have the all inclusive Fiesta Americana Villas in Acapulco, which unfortunately are not very popular at the moment.
In the Caribbean, in Quintana Roo, we have all of the brands
We have Live Aqua It's the adults only all inclusive in Cancun's main hotel zone. It’s an icon that’s one of the most successful resorts in the collection. For the last three years, it’s been in second place on Trip Advisor. If you read the reviews, you understand why we’re so proud of it.
Fiesta America Condesa in Playa del Carmen is a very small boutique all inclusive by Live Aqua.
We also have Fiesta Americana Cozumel.
We will open also in Monterrey and in Mexico City. And an American investor is taking the brand to the US.
We also have the Explorian brand. Those are small all inclusives. They’re 40-50 rooms. One is located on Cozumel, the other is next to the Kohunlich site. It's in the southern part of Quintana Roo, which is the area a lot of people are looking to experience. They want to visit the surrounding jungles and archaeological zones. They can go biking, snorkeling, sailing and ziplining.
All of these activities are included. It’s much more than the traditional all inclusive.
Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach Punta Cancun is the only EP resort we still have. We need to dedicate a complete separate article to talk about it. It’s the best EP in the destination. It has the largest spa.
Q: What kind of outreach are you doing for agents?
A: It's important for agents to understand our different brands. We have Fiesta Americana. Grand Fiesta Americana is the luxury imprint of the Fiesta Americana brand. We also have Live Aqua.
We’re trying to re-educate, agents. We want to reinforce in agents minds the advantages of each brand.
Fiesta Americana has a new dedicated agent website. It has all the information there that agents need. They can find out about cash incentives, promotions and travel agent rates. The goal is to help them become experts in the brand. They can sign up for their own Spirit of Mexico Experience by taking FAM trips.
