The initial line of the METRO light rail system for Greater Phoenix covers about 20 miles in Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa, Arizona. The five line sections are separate only to the extent that the contracts may be completed by different companies and the construction schedules may be different. METRO Operations and Maintenance Center

Located at 48th Street just south of Washington Street, the METRO Operations and Maintenance Center ("OMC") is the site of all light rail assembly, operations and maintenance. The center will house a 200-person team of operators, mechanics, cleaners, signal technicians, traction power electricians, track maintainers and maintenance personnel. At the end of each day of operation, this center and staff will provide the daily vehicle maintenance to all 50 trains in the fleet, including any needed repairs, interior cleaning of all windows and fixtures and exterior cleaning via a large, automated car wash.
