Sometimes referred to as the "Super Bowl of Swine," the Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest is an internationally renowned event that takes place each May in Tom Lee Park. Thousands of contestants cook up pork, beef, poultry, and more in hopes of winning cash prizes as well as industry recognition. Although it is a cooking competition, there are a few activities designed to allow visitors to get a sampling of all the Barbecue Cooking Contest has to offer.

This free guided tour will lead you through the grounds of the Barbecue Cooking Contest and will include cooking information from the teams, a peek at their specialty grills and smokers, and ideas for improving your own backyard barbecue. Tours leave every 30 minutes from the Memphis Barbecue Association Tent, located next door to the People's Choice Judging tent.
Ms. Piggie Idol:
While at the Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, you won't want to miss the highly anticipated Ms. Piggie Contest! This pageant features grown men wearing dresses and snouts, dancing and singing barbecue-themed songs on the Sharp Stage. It has become one of the most popular annual events at the Barbecue Cooking Contest and it offers fun and light-hearted entertainment for the whole family.
If the People's Choice sample kits don't fill you up, there will be plenty of barbecue vendors and other food vendors on site. Keep in mind that you cannot purchase or sample barbecue from the competition's contestants due to health regulations.
