Memorial Day Weekend in Memphis

Memorial Day is a federal holiday designed to honor those who have died while serving in the U.S. Military. It falls each year on the last Monday in May and is considered by many to be the unofficial start to summer.

A lot of folks celebrate the holiday with cookouts, pool parties, and other outdoor activities. Below you will find some of the best events going on around Memphis throughout Memorial Day Weekend. Whatever you choose to do, be sure to take a moment to remember those who have died for our freedoms.

Events in Memphis

In 2018, Memorial Day is May 28. Memorial Day weekend is May 25 - 28, 2018.

1. Redbirds Baseball
Is there anything more American than baseball? Take in one game or four over the course of Memorial Day Weekend. Each game will be held at AutoZone Park and Saturday's and Sunday's game will conclude with a fireworks show.

2. Memphis in May 901Fest
Back for its second year, Memphis in May's relatively new closing weekend event is all about the 9-0-1 (Memphis' area code). Celebrate all things Memphis with loads of live music, local vendors, delicious food, and drinks, plus an air show and fireworks. 

Closeout Memphis in May with the second annual Great American River Run 5K and half-marathon race in downtown Memphis. The Great American River Run in Memphis is May 27, 2018. Check out the race maps on the Memphis in May website. The half-marathon begins at 7 a.m. and the 5K begins at 7:30 a.m. The post-race party is open to all runners and features live music, beer, and food. 

4. Summer Symphony at the Live Garden
The Memphis Botanic Garden hosts the annual Summer Symphony in the gardens featuring the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. The 2018 Summer Symphony is Saturday, May 26. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. (The rain date is Sunday, May 28.)

Tickets are $1500 for an eight-top VIP table, $187.50 for a pair of VIP tickets, or $75 per person for access to the VIP lawn and lounge. Or, you can sit on the lawn for $20 for adults or $10 for kids 12 and under. Ticket prices go up to $5 on the day of the event.
